It's not always easy to see the Earth's crust. 00:00:00
It is covered by vegetation and oceans. 00:00:04
But if you could drain the Earth's oceans and strip away our planet's vegetation, 00:00:07
the Earth might look something like this. 00:00:12
Now we can see the Earth's hard outer shell. 00:00:14
And if you look closely, you can also see where the shell is cracked. 00:00:18
The red glowing lines mark the places where the Earth's shell is cracked 00:00:22
into small and large pieces called tectonic plates each plate carries a continent or an ocean basin 00:00:27
or sometimes both the plates are moving one to two inches a year in different directions 00:00:35
carrying continents and ocean basins with them millions of years ago the earth looked something 00:00:41

formed a single supercontinent called Pangea. But even then, the continents were moving 00:00:54
