Well, airplanes weigh a lot more than birds, so airplanes need efficient wings in order to fly.

Wings have a special shape called an airfoil. This shape forces air to move over and under the wing.

How does this shape help birds and airplanes fly?

One explanation comes from a scientist named Bernoulli.

He discovered that moving air makes different pressures on wings.

Air moves faster across the longer top part of the wing.

This makes low pressure on top. High pressure forms under the wing.
