explanation of conditionals

Hello students, I'm going to explain the zero, first and second conditionals, because some of you have asked me, so I'm going to explain them. 00:00:01
So, they have something in common, and it's the if. 00:00:11
If can go at the beginning of the sentence, and then you need a comma, like here, in this example here. 00:00:17
or if can go in the second part of the sentence so for example you could say 00:00:25
you need a passport if you go to the US so in that case you don't need a coma 00:00:32
there are three types of conditional we have the zero conditional for situations 00:00:39
that are true so for example if you go to the to the US you need a passport or 00:00:46
Or if it doesn't rain, the plants die. 00:00:52
Then we have the first conditional. 00:00:57
That's for possible situations in the future and there are consequences. 00:01:00
So if you aren't careful, that's a possible future situation, you will have an accident. 00:01:05
That's the consequence. 00:01:14
So, here in the first conditional, we see that there is a present here and a future, simple here. 00:01:15
In the zero conditional, we had present and present, okay? 00:01:24
Then, we have the second conditional for imaginary situations and their consequences. 00:01:31
The situations are in the present or the future, not in the past. 00:01:38
Why do we say that? Because even though we use a past simple here and a second conditional, I mean would plus infinitive here, 00:01:43
that doesn't mean that it's something that happened in the past. It's present. 00:01:56
But as it's imaginary, we use this structure. 00:02:01
So, the translation of this would be, si hiciera películas, viviría en Hollywood. 00:02:05
Okay, so, then we can also use that for when we give advice. 00:02:14
And in that case, you can say, if I were you, or if I was you, okay, I'd do that, for example. 00:02:23
If I were you, you can say that 00:02:32
Or if I was you, both are possible 00:02:36
And they mean exactly the same 00:02:40
I hope this is a bit clearer 00:02:42
So if you have more questions, ask me 00:02:45
