Hello, my dear students. How are you today? 00:00:04
As you can see, today we are going to have a different lesson. 00:00:07
Today we are going to do a tour around some significant buildings in London and UK. 00:00:11
So, open your ears and there we go. 00:00:18
First of all, I want to talk to you about the Millennium Dome. 00:00:23
It is a large dome-shaped building in Greenwich in south-east London. 00:00:28
It was built between 1997 and 2000 to celebrate the new millennium. 00:00:35
It was renamed as the O2 Arena in the year 2005. 00:00:44
And now it is a concert venue and many famous people, such as Bon Jovi, Prince or the Rolling Stones, have performed here. 00:00:50
For the 2012 London Olympics, the O2 was used for gymnastics and basketball. 00:01:02
externally it has 12 100 meter high yellow towers one for each month of the year and one for each 00:01:09
hour of the clock representing the role played by greenwich meantime another important building 00:01:22
is the Bullring which is a huge shopping center located in the center of 00:01:32
Birmingham. It opened in 2003 and one year later about 36.5 million people had 00:01:40
already visited it. Let's move now to St. Pancras Station. It opened in 1868 so 00:01:51
this year is the station's 150th anniversary. St. Pancras International 00:02:06
Station is one of the biggest landmarks in London. It is used by around 45 00:02:14
million passengers each year and if you want to go to Paris by train of course 00:02:20
you should know that you have to take the train here. Not too far from this 00:02:27
station we can get to King's Cross located on the northern edge of the city 00:02:33
it was opened in 1852 and a few years ago it became very popular for being the 00:02:39
setting of a well-known film and book I'm not gonna tell you but you will 00:02:48
probably recognize it by the images and some other London buildings that I would 00:02:54
like to talk about from left to right the walkie-talkie the gherkin the cheese 00:03:03
grater and the shard as you can see they are all modern buildings holding offices 00:03:10
for business people particularly interesting and controversial was the walkie-talkie building 00:03:18
there have been problems with this building because of the way the building reflects the sun 00:03:27
the street below became so hot that cars started melting the temperature 00:03:34
temperature was 94 degrees centigrade on the street. Can you imagine? You could even fry an 00:03:43
egg there. So that's all about my video. I hope you liked and see you tomorrow. 00:03:51
