Did I tell you about how I started my career? 00:00:02
I was given one of our team's most challenging accounts, a customer from Texas. 00:00:06
Everyone in the office laughed when they heard about it. 00:00:11

Yeah, that contract is a pain in the butt. Don't expect too much. 00:00:16
I got so many requests from that customer contact and I did everything I could to help him. 00:00:21
I thought we would have a big order by the end of the month. 00:00:27
but when the time came, he didn't order anything. 00:00:31
So, since I was in Texas, a place where people like their guns, 00:00:34
I went to a toy shop and bought a toy gun with six plastic bullets. 00:00:39
I gave the gun to the customer at our next meeting, 00:00:45
and I explained what was going to happen. 00:00:48
Here was my deal. 00:00:51
He could ask me for anything he needed from us, 00:00:53
but each time he asked, he had to give me one of those bullets. 00:00:56
When I got all six bullets, I could ask for something in return. 00:00:59
And you can probably guess what I wanted. 00:01:04
Eventually, he agreed, and we made one of the biggest deals in our company's history. 00:01:07
Probably it was not because of the bullets, but it's still one of my favorite stories. 00:01:13
This has been an example of telling an anecdote. 00:01:18
One of the most important things when telling an anecdote or story is to use good linkers. 00:01:29
You have used this in your writing task, telling a story. 00:01:38
And here you have in your book some of them. 00:01:43
For example, when talking about a bad journey, you start, 00:01:47
This happened last year or a few months ago. 00:01:52
And then you use linkers to help the listener follow you and the narrative of what happened. 00:01:57
The first part of the journey was after a while. 00:02:08
It was only when. 00:02:14
OK, so we're going to go back. 00:02:16

and of course imagine this is not only a monologue the first part of your exam 00:02:26
but also an interaction the person who is listening to you has to show interest 00:02:33

for a software engineer. One candidate had a fantastic CV and we invited him for an interview. 00:03:07
However, like many interviews, this one was nothing special. He had the skills but something 00:03:14

distracted and irritated with our questions the candidate could see that 00:03:27
we were not interested so he asked us to look at his portfolio before leaving 00:03:33
before we could say no or even wonder why a software engineer had a paper 00:03:38
portfolio he pulled out a folder and gave a presentation of his whole life 00:03:43
starting with his birth certificate after showing us that he was in fact 00:03:48
born he took out his kindergarten graduation certificate his art awards 00:03:53
from school and all the paintings from his childhood and teenage years of 00:03:58
course we didn't hire him after that he continued to try to connect with us on 00:04:03
social media and we continued to decline his requests in the end he sent a 00:04:08
LinkedIn death threat at that point I blocked him permanently okay now it's 00:04:14
