Hey guys, Emem here. We're gonna talk about Gothic architecture today. 00:00:04
When someone says Gothic, we first think about those Goths, ghosts, and other scary things lurking in the dark. 00:00:09
It's not that. The idea of Gothic style was thought of to bring sunshine into people's lives, especially in their churches. 00:00:18
The Gothic style of architecture originated from the 12th century France to the 16th century 00:00:27
century where the modern square root symbol was thought of and created. 00:00:32
The characteristics of the gothical architectural style are pointed arches, flying buttresses, 00:00:39
tall spires, ribbed vaults, stained glass, and of course, the gargoyles. 00:00:46
The characteristics that distinguishes gothical architecture from the others are mainly the 00:00:53
pointed arches, flying buttresses, and the rib vaults. And as you can see in the video, 00:00:58
those three characteristics are the ones I shaded red. Back in the old days, building 00:01:04
skills were extremely limited. Most buildings were rudimentary. Thus, Gothic architecture was 00:01:10
brought up to brighten up the buildings. In comparison with Romanesque style, Romanesque 00:01:16
had barrel vaults while Gothic had rib vaults. It focused on large internal structures while Gothic 00:01:21
was more into high buildings. Romanesque had thick walls to support the structure, while 00:01:27
Gothic had flying buttresses. And of course, Romanesque were into round arches, as the 00:01:33
latter was into pointed ones. Examples of gothical buildings is the Basilica of St. 00:01:38
Denis in Paris, France, the first structure built in gothical style. Notre-Dame de Paris, 00:01:45
the most famous of all gothical buildings, thanks to the novel. The Salisbury Cathedral 00:01:49
In England, it is a fine example of the English gothical architecture, and of course Hogwarts was also designed in a gothical way. 00:01:55
Now that you know the basics of gothic architecture, don't be afraid to discuss this topic with your friends and share your ideas so you guys can learn more. 00:02:03
So, this is the end of the video. Thank you for watching and goodbye! 00:02:12
