Hello guys, this is Mr. Charles again and today we will have a quick and refreshing course on Indefinite Pronouns.
00:00:01
So as you can see guys, Indefinite Pronouns are pretty simple concepts, okay?
00:00:20
They tend to be used to refer to people or things, right?
00:00:27
or places without specifying or saying exactly who or what it is that they are or that we're talking about, okay?
00:00:33
And as you can tell probably in this chart that I found to be very useful, again, remember I love charts,
00:00:42
the endings body and one are used to refer to people, okay?
00:00:49
The ending thing is for things, obviously, it's quite self-explanatory, and where and
00:00:59
here is for pronouns that refer to places, okay?
00:01:08
Now, we also have to think about how it is that indefinite pronouns are used, so the
00:01:17
first thing we have to remember is they tend to be used by a following singular
00:01:26
verb okay so usually when we use an indefinite pronoun they have a singular
00:01:32
verb following in the sentence right to make use of it properly you might feel
00:01:37
tempted to use the prefix any negatively okay there are some other rules in
00:01:43
specific cases in grammar in which you might be able to do that. But when we're talking about
00:01:51
pronouns, okay, if you say something such as, for example, anybody didn't come, right? We're
00:01:57
talking about the ambulance. This would be wrong for a series of reasons. First of all, as I
00:02:14
mentioned, any, when we're talking about pronouns, is not used
00:02:26
negatively, okay? So that's
00:02:30
off the chart for negative clauses in
00:02:33
indefinite pronouns. Then you also have didn't,
00:02:38
okay? Now, when we're using pronouns,
00:02:42
negative pronouns, usually the negative clause is going to be
00:02:46
within the pronoun itself,
00:02:50
okay so we wouldn't have to use didn't okay to express the negativity in the
00:02:52
negative in the sentence using the indefinite pronouns okay so the right
00:03:05
way to use a negative clause in the indefinite pronouns as you can see is
00:03:11
going to be much simpler because all we have to do is put the no okay with the
00:03:20
prefix of the specific pronoun that we're using in this case we're
00:03:30
talking about people okay so be nobody came okay remember it was somebody
00:03:35
call an ambulance and we make the response negative right and that would be nobody came
00:03:43
all right and it is that simple you don't need to make it extra complicated adding things to
00:03:54
the sentence etc all right now guys last but not least let's also remember that to indicate
00:04:02
possessiveness all we have to do okay is add an apostrophe s at the end of the pronoun
00:04:08
so for example somebody's pencil okay or anybody's coat okay simply by adding
00:04:14
apostrophe s at the end of the pronoun we already know okay that this object or
00:04:38
thing belongs to someone or we are indicated that it belongs to someone
00:04:46
Okay. All right, guys, in case you need some more clarification about indefinite pronouns,
00:04:50
I leave you here with a very good video that will help you get things straight. All right.
00:04:54
So thanks for paying attention, guys, and I hope you have a good day. Goodbye.
