What is a prefix?

A prefix is a word part added in front of a base word to change the meaning.

Here we have five different examples of prefixes.

The first prefix is pre-, which means before.

For example, pre-adolescent, which means before the adolescent.

The second prefix is "-and". That means not. For example, if we add "-and", and welcome,

means that you are not welcome.

The third prefix is "-non". In this case, non-sleep means, again, that you don't sleep.

The fourth prefix is "-uni". Uni means that it's only one, like in the example unicellular.

The last prefix is trans, which means across.
