Hi, my name is Callum, and I was an auxiliar at Manuel Bartolome Cocio from 2018 to 2020. 00:00:02
But today, I am back to bring to you grammar from big questions for Unit 8 or 2nd grade. 00:00:10
Today, we are going to review our sports vocabulary. 00:00:22
So, we have skateboard, play basketball, cycle, sail, ice skate, skip, play table tennis, do judo, surf, play chess. 00:00:26
However, today we are going to talk about things they are doing now. 00:00:58
They are skateboarding. 00:01:10
They are playing chess. 00:01:16
They are surfing. 00:01:19
So, let's take a look at our vocabulary. 00:01:24
So, we can see we have played chess. 00:01:28
But when we are talking about things that we are doing now, or things that people are doing at this moment, we say, playing chess. 00:01:31
We are going to add an ing to the end of our verbs. 00:01:42
So we have, so play chess becomes playing chess. 00:01:47
Skateboard becomes skateboarding. 00:01:52
Skip becomes skipping. 00:01:57
Sail becomes sailing. 00:02:00
Cycle becomes cycling. 00:02:06
Do judo becomes doing judo. 00:02:11
Ice skate becomes ice skating. 00:02:16
And surf becomes surfing. 00:02:20
So we start with our regular vocabulary. 00:02:24
but for the verb, we're going to add on an ing. So, when we talk about things that they are doing 00:02:28
now, we can either say this in the affirmative, which means yes, or we can say it in the negative, 00:02:38
which means no. So, for example, if I were to answer in the affirmative, I'd be saying, 00:02:46
They are surfing. They are doing judo. They are cycling. But if I were to answer in the negative, 00:02:52
I would say they aren't playing chess. They aren't skating. They aren't playing basketball. 00:03:05
So let's look at this picture. We can see that we are going to answer in the affirmative, or that they are. 00:03:16
So we would say, they are doing judo. Let's look at this next picture. 00:03:29
Here we can see that we have an X, which means that we are going to answer in the negative, that they aren't. 00:03:37
So, we would say, they aren't playing chess. 00:03:44
In this one, we have a green checkmark, which means that we are going to answer in the affirmative and say, they are playing basketball. 00:03:51
In this one, we see that we have an X, which means we are going to answer in the negative or no, which means we are going to say, they aren't sailing. 00:04:03
So now it's your turn. What would you say here? They are skipping. What about in this picture? 00:04:17
They aren't surfing. So now that we know how to answer or talk about what they are doing, 00:04:57
we're going to move on to how we can ask questions. Are they playing chess? 00:05:07
are they skateboarding are they surfing so whenever we ask a question about what people 00:05:17
are doing in the in this moment we say are plus they plus the verb with an ing ending 00:05:30
For example, are they ice skating? 00:05:39
So we have our are, they, and our verb with the ing ending. 00:05:45
Are they skipping? 00:05:52
So again, we see that we have our are plus they plus our verb skip with an ing ending to make it skipping. 00:05:56
And finally, are they playing table tennis? 00:06:09
So let's practice asking the question. 00:06:13
What question would you ask? 00:06:18
Are they skipping? 00:06:34
So let's practice asking again. 00:06:37
Are they playing table tennis? 00:06:40
So now we can figure out how we can answer these questions. 00:06:56
So we can either answer in the affirmative, which means yes, or the negative, which means no. 00:07:01
So, are they playing chess? 00:07:09
If they are, we would say yes, they are. 00:07:13
If they aren't, we would say no, they aren't. 00:07:17
So let's look at an example. 00:07:21
Are they doing judo? Looking at the green checkmark, which means that we are going to 00:07:23
answer in the affirmative, we would say, yes, they are. So now let's do some practice together. 00:07:39
Are they playing chess? No, they aren't. Are they sailing? Yes, they are. So now it's your turn. 00:07:49
Are they cycling? Yes, they are. Are they playing chess? No, they aren't. Are they ice skating? 00:08:30
Yes, they are. Are they cycling? No, they aren't. Are they playing chess? No, they aren't. 00:09:31
