One year after the Madrid attacks, the European Union created in 2005 the first European Day for Victims of Terrorism. The attacks in London on 7 July 2005 demonstrated the necessity of perpetuating this day of memory and tribute. As 11 March 2006 - the Second European Day for Victims of Terrorism - draws closer, Propager TV, an audiovisual press agency specialised in European issues, presents two royalty-free reports produced in partnership with the European Commission: 1st report: 'the evolution of counter-terrorism' We examine the evolution of counter-terrorism. How has cooperation on counter-terrorism been stepped up since the London attacks? How have individual freedoms been safeguarded? What terrorist networks exist in Europe? Were the London attacks foreseeable? Should new attacks be feared? How can we prepare for them? 2nd report: 'the victims and their specific requests' We look at the victims and their specific requests. European Commission Vice-President Franco Frattini, Members of the European Parliament and representatives of victims' associations explain how this day of tribute is a symbolic day, but also a day of debate over our conditions of existence in a European area at peace. We met victims or families of victims of last July's attacks in London and of earlier terrorist attacks that affected European citizens. Through their poignant and dignified testimony, they express the vital importance of this day of tribute.
