Hello! We are going to continue talking about Spain in the Middle Ages. The Muslims built many 00:00:00
beautiful buildings like the Great Mosque in Cordoba and the Alhambra in Granada. First, 00:00:12
let's look at the Great Mosque of Cordoba. In the top diagram, you can see the fountain, 00:00:19
courtyard, minaret, and prayer hall. The horseshoe arch is characteristic of Hispano-Muslim 00:00:29
architecture. And here you can see the beautiful prayer hall. In December, I got to go to Cordova 00:00:41
and see this mosque. I thought it was beautiful and I felt grateful to be standing in a place 00:00:51
where so much history has taken place. I'm curious if any of you have visited the Great Mosque of 00:00:57
Cordoba. Now let's look at the Alhambra, which is in Granada. In the top picture, you can see 00:01:07
the courtyard of Camaras. Here's the entrance. We've got the Hall of the Two Sisters, 00:01:18
Courtyard of the Lions, and Hall of the Kings. There are many details within this historic 00:01:25
building. You can find geometric patterns and calligraphy. This image shows the Hall of the 00:01:39
two sisters. You can see the plaster work and tiles. Here we have a concept map for 00:01:50
all Andalus. It is divided into four groups. We have the four stages, society, 00:02:08
parts of the city, and legacy. First, we have the four stages. Al-Andalus went from a dependent 00:02:22
emirate to an independent emirate. Then it was the Caliphate of Cordoba, and then the Taifa 00:02:36
kingdoms. Society. Muslims, Christians, or Mos-Arabs, and Jews all lived together in 00:02:49
Al-Andalus. Christians and Jews could live anywhere, but they had fewer rights than the 00:03:04
Muslims. Parts of the city. There was the mosque, where Muslims would pray, the suq, 00:03:12
which is the marketplace where the merchants bought and sold things, 00:03:22
the Medina, 00:03:27
and the Alcazaba, which is the fortress where the governor lived. 00:03:30
Legacy. 00:03:37
Al-Andalus introduced new agricultural techniques, 00:03:40
papermaking, 00:03:47
mathematics, 00:03:49
and language. 00:03:50
Okay, that's all for now. Goodbye! 00:03:53
