There's a fire starting in my heart
00:00:04
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out the dark
00:00:09
Finally I can see you crystal clear
00:00:13
Go ahead and sell me out and I'll lay your shit bare
00:00:18
See how I'll leave with every piece of you
00:00:22
Don't underestimate the things that I will do
00:00:27
There's a fire starting in my heart
00:00:31
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out the dark
00:00:36
The scars of your love remind me of us
00:00:40
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
00:00:46
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless
00:00:51
I can't help feeling we could have had it all
00:00:56
During the course of the years, science and technology have been advancing little by little
00:01:00
and so we get to know more about how our body works, how we grow and age,
00:01:27
how diseases arise and how we can prevent them.
00:01:34
Thanks to scientists, medicine has also evolved throughout history
00:01:44
and the professionals who are increasingly better prepared to help us when we are sick
00:01:50
are doctors, nurses and all the staff who work in a hospital.
00:01:56
Although there is still no cure for everything, doctors always try to help us.
00:02:05
Sadly, in other countries medicine is not so advanced.
00:02:12
Many countries in Africa and Asia, for example, need urgent help.
00:02:16
That's why today we have Jacinto Benavente from Galapagar, our radio studio, as a special guest who is currently in a nursing practice and who is here to answer some questions.
00:02:27
Good morning, Gerard Camila Barrera Olarte.
00:02:49
How are you?
00:02:54
Hello, very good. And you?
00:02:56
Very good, very good.
00:02:59
We have invited you, thank you very much for coming, because we want to ask you some questions about what you are studying, nursing.
00:03:06
Ah, and also Gerald is Ashley's sister, our interviewer, so it has been easier for us to contact her.
00:03:18
To start, we would like you to tell us about the first song you have chosen to start this interview.
00:03:27
Well, I have chosen this song because the two songs are our favorites, Ashley's and mine.
00:03:36
So we are all day at home singing, in the kitchen, in the bathroom. Well, that's basically why.
00:03:45
Why did you choose to study nursing?
00:03:52
Let's see, I feel that I am a person who likes to help people a lot, so I felt that the best way to help people would be by studying nursing or something that has to do with health, since you do not only focus on the illness of a person, but also on the emotional part of how that person and his family are.
00:03:56
Did you get inspired by someone?
00:04:20
Well, no, the truth is that no. Since I was a child, a few years ago in high school, I knew that I wanted to dedicate myself to something of health, but I was not very clear about what.
00:04:23
At first I said medicine, but then when I realized what each career, each branch was about, I decided that I wanted to do nursing.
00:04:37
Tell us, how is the nursing career?
00:04:48
Well, it is quite good, more than difficult, it is very sacrificed, it is a career that you have to sacrifice a lot,
00:04:52
there are maybe many nights that you cannot go out to drink something with your friends,
00:05:03
or many evenings that you cannot stay, or many nights without sleeping too, because it is not difficult,
00:05:08
difficult, anyone could get it, but you do need to study a lot.
00:05:14
Are the exams you have been doing to be a good nurse difficult?
00:05:19
Well, yes, they are what I told you, it is quite difficult, you have to study a lot, you have to be very
00:05:29
committed and above all, well, that, have a focus and know what you want and go for it.
00:05:36
We know that during the nursing career, students have to do practices in a hospital.
00:05:43
Tell us a little if you have already done them, where and in which departments.
00:05:49
Yes, I was just in it and I was, at the moment I have been in four departments that have been palliative, emergency, ICU and rehabilitation.
00:05:55
Could you explain to us what is palliative?
00:06:07
Yes. Palliative is a plant where people who have a terminal illness are found.
00:06:13
For example, they are people who have cancer and the cancer no longer has a cure.
00:06:20
They are people who at some point will go away.
00:06:26
Do you have any anecdote that has happened to you in your practice?
00:06:30
Yes, I have many, in fact.
00:06:35
Well, I have one, for example, which is very funny too, but at the time, well, it cost me a lot.
00:06:38
And it is that one day, when you are a nurse student, for example, you have to put lines, you have to puncture, you have to bleed.
00:06:45
So one day I went to do it to a patient and he told me, no, no, you don't, you don't know, you are a student.
00:06:55
So, well, it is true that many times you find yourself with people who think that because you are a student you do not know how to do it or you still do not have the ability to do it.
00:07:03
So, well, they are things that, well, at the moment they make you laugh too or you can feel bad too, it depends on how the person tells you.
00:07:12
But yes, that, for example, could be one.
00:07:19
During the period of your practices, you will meet many people, including patients and companions, right?
00:07:23
Yes, and I think it is the most beautiful part of studying nursing because the people you know are incredible.
00:07:32
I have met many patients to whom I have had to say goodbye, I have had to move away because they have gone to their home or the disease has already taken it away and it has been very hard.
00:07:40
you stay with all the good about especially the patients and the people
00:07:56
that you know your colleagues who also study the same as you learn
00:08:01
also a lot of them is incredible I think it is the most beautiful to study
00:08:05
this gives you time to make friends during the practices yes yes yes at the time
00:08:09
of breakfast or even on the plant also many times I don't know you make
00:08:15
friends always if you would like to do the practices of
00:08:21
nursing in another country if it is one of my plans I want to travel during my
00:08:25
career I want to go to another country and be able to experience how it is
00:08:33
nursing in another in other countries do you think it is a hard work and
00:08:39
sacrificed and do you think it is needed to be a good nurse
00:08:44
yes it is quite sacrificed and I think that what is needed to be a good nurse is to have a vocation
00:08:50
you have to like to help people a lot also be very empathetic understand that people are
00:08:59
going through very difficult times and although many times they speak ill of you and you have to understand
00:09:07
that it is good that they are in a very difficult situation and there you realize how lucky
00:09:14
we are because we have our family we are well then well I think that is
00:09:18
what is needed to be a good nurse
00:09:24
did you ever think you were going to be a nurse and when did you decide to study
00:09:28
to do it no I was not in my plans at the beginning
00:09:33
at all I wanted to study medicine I wanted to be a doctor and then I did a
00:09:39
degree that made me learn a little more about this topic on the subject of
00:09:45
health and realize what the function of a doctor the function of a
00:09:50
nurse and the function of each one and that's when I decided that I wanted to
00:09:55
study nursing because well when you are when you are a nurse when
00:10:01
you study nursing the nurse focuses is what I was telling you does not focus
00:10:05
only on the patient's illness but also on how he is in emotionally
00:10:09
help you in everything you need to you and your family so that was what
00:10:15
I was encouraged to study nursing when you are sick you know how to heal yourself
00:10:20
no no even with Ashley we always laugh or well she is always
00:10:25
telling me at home if you are a nurse you should know this I do not know what but
00:10:31
well in the end I am still a student I am not a professional yet but
00:10:35
well it is true that many times I help them at home maybe I can
00:10:41
advise or ask me something about some drugs because I can tell you but I don't know how to heal
00:10:44
less hopefully you could tell us some curiosity that you didn't know before, well, let's see a
00:10:51
curiosity and more than a curiosity is another anecdote once I went to puncture a good one to
00:11:01
take blood out of an older woman, so there are people when you are growing and you are
00:11:09
getting older because the veins become thinner and every time there is less blood, well,
00:11:16
less blood runs through your body, so it is very difficult to take a vein, so one day I went to
00:11:22
take a vein from an older person to a lady and I did it wrong and well, a marathon came out
00:11:28
I even took a picture and showed it to my family, and it was my fault, so the family was a little hysterical, the lady too, and well, that day they made me mad, but well, in the end they are things that happen, they have to happen for you to learn, but well, that's an anecdote.
00:11:34
In the Natural Sciences class we have done different investigations and expositions
00:11:50
about different foods that we have chosen in each team that we think are healthy and others
00:11:59
that are not.
00:12:05
Could you tell us how it affects what we eat in our health now that we are growing?
00:12:07
Well now it is very important, especially at the age in which you are, because you are
00:12:14
in the age of growth you are going to enter now pre-adolescence and well it is very important
00:12:19
everything you eat also that you do sports some sport would also be good that you would do and
00:12:25
above all eat a lot of fruit eat a lot of protein well yes it is right now is when you
00:12:31
have to take care of the issue of food we are listening to radio jacinto benavente
00:12:38
of Galapagar and in our in our studio we are very lucky to have a very special guest
00:13:46
, Gerard Camila Barrera Olarte, a nursing student, thank you very much for coming Gerard.
00:13:51
You're welcome. Well, Gerard, how do you feel on our radio in front of these colored microphones
00:14:03
telling our questions? Well, I feel very good, well, a little uncomfortable because they had never
00:14:23
had asked me this kind of questions and much less here but hey very good very comfortable with you
00:14:28
we liked it we would like to know you a little more could you tell us about how your childhood was and your
00:14:33
stage in school well my childhood well well very well like that of any other child I think
00:14:41
I was playing I had a lot of fun with my friends with my family with my cousins and my stage in
00:14:50
When I was in school, well, also very well, I was not like Ashley who had so many friends, I was more quiet, I was more, well, more shy than her, but well, very well.
00:14:57
When you were a girl, what did you want to be when you were older?
00:15:11
I wanted to be everything. When I was little I wanted to be a police officer, a chef, I wanted to be everything but what I am doing now.
00:15:13
When you are little you also want to be everything you like at the moment, you say I want this, but when you grow up you realize what you really want.
00:15:24
But when I was little I wanted to be everything.
00:15:34
What did you usually play at school or at home?
00:15:37
Well, to the hide-and-seek, to the hide-and-seek, I don't know, to what happened to us at the time.
00:15:41
Maybe there were games that didn't exist and we didn't invent them.
00:15:49
Do you have contacts with your old classmates and classmates from school?
00:15:53
Yes, my best friends are those from the institute that we studied together and we still maintain the friendship to this day.
00:15:58
and what I tell you they are one of my best friends now how were your teachers my teachers
00:16:08
well my teachers very well and I have never had problems with any teacher I have always been
00:16:17
very shy I have been very quiet so well I have never had any problem in that sense with
00:16:24
any teacher very well the truth to say goodbye we are going to listen to another song that you have
00:16:30
chosen to talk to us talk to us a little about her because it is the same as ley and I are fans of this
00:16:35
song especially we are always listening to it we always always sing it we do not know it we go
00:16:42
to the right and the other way around and well, that is, I have chosen it because of her because it reminds me a lot of my sister
