Hey, gang! Hey, Norbit! Welcome to St. Louis, Missouri. 00:00:00
I'm standing here in front of the St. Louis Science Center, our museum partner for this show. 00:00:05
This science center is a 232,000-square-foot, three-building facility 00:00:10
that's connected by a bridge in a tunnel. 00:00:16
It contains 11 galleries, over 650 exhibits, 00:00:18
an omnimax theater, planetarium, discovery room, and live science presentations. 00:00:22
In a moment, we're going to go inside to meet the students 00:00:28
from the Compton Drew Investigative Learning Center 00:00:31
and the AIAA student chapter from the University of Washington, St. Louis. 00:00:34
These students are going to highlight for us the web-based activity 00:00:39
which complements this NASA Connect video program. 00:00:42
But first, let's take a quick flyby of Norbit's online lab. 00:00:46
There are a couple of areas of this lab worth investigating. 00:00:51
Teachers, the lab manager section is designed especially for you. 00:00:54
Here you will find scenarios and tools for integrating 00:00:58
NASA Connect's web activity into the classroom. 00:01:01
Another excellent resource for integrating technology efficiently into the curriculum is 00:01:04
ePALS Classroom Exchange. 00:01:09
As a Connect partner, it offers free web-based email 00:01:11
and an online classroom community of over 130 countries 00:01:15
with whom you might communicate and collaborate on class projects, 00:01:19
such as those projects suggested in the Connect programs. 00:01:22
Well, here we are now inside the St. Louis Science Center 00:01:26
and waiting and ready to take us into the wild blue yonder of the Internet 00:01:30
in this Connect show's web activity are our guest middle and university students. 00:01:34
The web module that they will share has been contributed by 00:01:39
Princeton University's Interactive Plasma Physics Education Experience, or IPEX. 00:01:41
IPEX has created several interactive physics modules, 00:01:48
including one on electricity and magnetism. 00:01:51
This module will introduce you to many of the basic concepts involved with electricity and magnetism, 00:01:54
like static charge, moving charge, voltage, resistance, and current. 00:02:01
This site combines multimedia with built-in interactive exercises 00:02:06
to help you better understand the concepts. 00:02:10
For instance, you can rub a balloon on a wolf sweater to learn about static electricity. 00:02:13
Use a slider bar to see what happens with similar charges on balloons. 00:02:19
Build and complete a circuit. 00:02:24
So there you have it. 00:02:26
Take a website, add interactivity, subtract complexity, and multiply excitement. 00:02:28
The e-solution is simple. 00:02:33
Norbitz Online Lab. It's where education clicks. 00:02:35
Bringing to you the power of digital learning, 00:02:39
I'm Shelley Canright for NASA Connect Online. 00:02:41
