Guys, it's us, the Grammar Gurus, with me, Meg. 00:00:20
And me, Ollie. 00:00:24
But, um, before we begin, is there anything you want to tell us, Meg? 00:00:26
Yes, actually. I got my dream job, reviewing video games for a website. 00:00:33
But, what about, um... 00:00:39
I'm sorry, you're going to have to explain this one. 00:00:44
Okay, when I was around 10, I played a lot of football and I didn't like video games 00:00:46
at all until Soccer Strikers came out. I loved that game. Then, last Friday, I was chatting 00:00:55
on a website forum, we were talking about old games, when somebody mentioned that Soccer 00:01:06
strikers the virtual reality version was out and the website wanted somebody to review it 00:01:12
so i tried it straight away i won all my games and then i was in the final 00:01:20
it was the last minute and i was running into the box i was about to score when let me guess 00:01:28
you fell over no i scored but then i jumped to celebrate and hit my head 00:01:33
It still hurts. 00:01:41
Oh, no, Meg. I'm so sorry. 00:01:43
But I know what will cheer you up. 00:01:46
Grammar! 00:01:49
OK, today we're talking about describing the past 00:01:56
using the past simple and the past continuous. 00:02:00
We use the past simple to describe finished actions 00:02:06
or situations in the past. 00:02:09
We also use it to say that one thing happened after another. 00:02:11
Meg scored, then Meg jumped, then Meg hit her head. Sorry, Meg. 00:02:17
Thanks, Ollie. 00:02:26
We use past continuous to talk about activities in progress at a moment in the past. 00:02:29
We also use it to describe scenes in a story. 00:02:35
And to talk about activities in progress when another, shorter activity happened or interrupted it. 00:02:39
Now, let's practice. Try this exercise. Fill in the gaps of the sentences with the correct 00:02:49
form of the past simple or the past continuous. See you next time! 00:02:56
Bye! 00:03:01
