Mejor Historia: THIS IS A STORY OF LOVE, CEIP RAYUELA.
This is a story of love, healthy and hope, full of good feelings, and charged with positive
00:00:00
thoughts for Japan.
00:00:08
After the earthquake and the tsunami in Japan, we all went to school really sad, thinking
00:00:09
about what we could do to help Japan and the Japanese people in these difficult moments.
00:00:14
Our head teacher told us a story about that, Sarako Sasaki, who lived in Hiroshima at the
00:00:19
time of the atomic bombing by the United States.
00:00:23
She developed leukemia from the radiation and spent all her time in a nursery school
00:00:25
creating origami folded paper cranes in the hope of making a thousand of them.
00:00:29
She was inspired to do so by her best friend, Peggy Tatouine, who created a thousand origami
00:00:34
cranes with them be granted a wish.
00:00:39
Her wish was simply to live.
00:00:40
However, she managed to fold only 644 cranes before she became too weak to fold any more,
00:00:42
and she died shortly after.
00:00:49
Her friends and family helped finish her dream by folding the rest of cranes, which were
00:00:51
buried to Sarako.
00:00:55
They also built the statue of Sarako holding a giant golden origami crane in Hiroshima
00:00:56
Peace Park.
00:01:02
We should have thought about folding ones outside origami cranes to be able to wish
00:01:03
for hope, healing, and reconstruction for Japan.
00:01:07
So we started to fold cranes, helped by our teachers, parents, and friends.
00:01:10
It wasn't easy at first, but with a little help and some practice, most of us learned
00:01:14
how to fold paper cranes.
00:01:19
Our thoughts were with all the Japanese children and their families, especially with the ones
00:01:20
who are suffering a deadly destruction that the tsunami and the earthquake has left.
00:01:24
We made four red and black origami cranes.
00:01:28
After we finished, all the students and teachers met in the playground to make a Japanese flag
00:01:30
with all our origami cranes.
00:01:35
We also drew a Japanese and Spanish map on the ground to make our country's flag.
00:01:36
After we all had made the flag, we circled around it and held our hands for a moment
00:01:41
of silence.
00:01:45
All of our thoughts were with Japan then.
00:01:46
It was a really sunny day.
00:01:48
We like to think that it was soon.
00:01:49
That our message of love and hope arrives faster.
00:01:51
We really hope that our wish will come true real soon.
00:01:54
In the meantime, we would really like to feel the empty space that sadness and sorrow have
00:01:57
left in the hearts of those who are suffering.
00:02:01
We are one hope!
