Okay, today we are going to talk about the present continuous. 00:00:00
We use the present continuous to talk about something that is happening right now. 00:00:09
So we use the verb to be with a verb ending with ing. 00:00:19
So let's review the verb to be. 00:00:29
I am, you are, he is, she is, it is, we are, and they are. 00:00:32
Let's talk about some verbs that end with ing. 00:00:53
Eat is eating, cook, cooking, mix, mixing, buy, buying, drink, drinking, clean, cleaning, 00:00:58
Remember, when we have a word like take, the E is silent. 00:01:27
We get rid of it and make it taking. 00:01:35
Make making. 00:01:41
Cut. 00:01:46
Some words with T, you put a double T. 00:01:51
So cut becomes cutting with two T's. 00:01:55
Put or set, the table becomes putting and setting with two T's. 00:02:01
Grammar tip for the present continuous, the verb to be, which is am, is, or are, with 00:02:12
the verb that ends in ing. 00:02:22
Go turns into going. 00:02:27
Make, you take away the silent E and it turns into making. 00:02:31

Now let's talk about the present simple versus the present continuous. 00:02:55
The present simple is something that happens every day. 00:03:02
So the key word is every, but the present continuous is something happening now. 00:03:07
So for the present simple, every day, we talk about everyday routines, but the present 00:03:16
continuous is just something happening now. 00:03:23
So for example, in the present simple, we say, I play basketball every Saturday. 00:03:28
In the present continuous, we say, I am playing basketball now. 00:03:37
