The Rebellion quickly became a civil war, which affected all of Spain. 00:00:16
Franco and the Nationalists were opposed to the changes that the Second Republic had introduced. 00:00:28
They wanted to replace the Republic with a right-wing dictatorship. 00:00:35
The Republicans supported the Second Republic. 00:00:40
The Nationalists were supported by Germany and Italy. 00:00:43
These countries were both right-wing dictatorships. 00:00:48
The Republicans were supported by the Soviet Union, Russia. 00:00:52
The Soviet Union was a left-wing dictatorship. 00:00:57
The war had other consequences too. 00:01:03
Around 365,000 people died. 00:01:12
People were imprisoned or killed because of their opinions. 00:01:16
Nationalists who live in the Republican zones and the Republicans who live in the Nationalist zones. 00:01:20
Roads, bridges, railways and buildings were destroyed. 00:01:30
People who came in there wasn't enough food. 00:01:34
Many Spanish children were sent to other countries to keep them away from the conflicts. 00:01:39
Some of these children never saw their families again. 00:01:44
