Hey everybody, it's Cameron here. 00:00:00
So Raul and I were talking the other day, and he told me that this week is book week at school, 00:00:03
and just because we're not at school together doesn't mean that we can't read some books together. 00:00:10
So the book that I have on my computer to read for you guys is called The Little Prince, okay? 00:00:15
And it's a story that my mother used to read to me a lot when I was a kid, 00:00:24
and I still love reading it now so I figured I would read a little bit for you guys and hopefully 00:00:28
you guys enjoy it and if you want to hear more because I'm not going to be reading the whole 00:00:35
story I'm only going to read a short little part of it you can ask your parents to go on YouTube 00:00:40
for you and look up the audio version of The Little Prince so I looked that up as well it's 00:00:45
on there so all you have to do is type in Little Prince on YouTube and you'll find it okay so 00:00:51
without further ado, I hope you guys enjoy it. Chapter one. Once when I was six years old, 00:00:57
I saw a magnificent picture in a book called True Stories from Nature about the primeval forest. 00:01:04
It was a picture of a boa constrictor in the act of swallowing an animal. A boa constrictor is a 00:01:14
snake, okay? So it's a big snake. So the boa constrictor was swallowing an animal, probably 00:01:22
a mouse. In the book, it said, boa constrictors swallow their prey whole without chewing it. 00:01:27
After that, they are not able to move and they sleep through the six months that they need for 00:01:35
digestion. So they eat and then they don't move. They only sleep for six months. So September, 00:01:40
October, November, December, January, February, they sleep the whole time. So half a year. 00:01:47
i pondered deeply then over the adventures of the jungle and after some work with a colored pencil 00:01:52
i succeeded in making my first drawing my drawing number one it looked like this and it's a shape 00:02:01
so the picture is a line and then there's a little bulb so it's a snake with something inside of its 00:02:08
belly after it ate i showed my masterpiece to the grown-ups and asked them whether the drawing 00:02:14
frighten them. But they answered, frighten? Why would anyone be frightened by a hat? So it kind 00:02:21
of looks like a top hat with the straight lines. My drawing was not a picture of a hat. It was a 00:02:27
picture of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant. But since the grown-ups were not able to understand 00:02:35
it, I made another drawing. I drew the inside of the boa constrictor so that the grown-ups 00:02:41
could see it clearly. They always need to have things explained. My drawing number two looked 00:02:48
like this. So now it's inside and you see an elephant inside of its belly. The grown-up's 00:02:52
response this time was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictors, whether from the 00:03:00
inside or the outside, and devote myself instead to geography, history, math, and grammar. That is why 00:03:06
at the age of six, I gave up what might have been a magnificent career as a painter. 00:03:15
I had been disheartened by the failure of my drawing number one and my drawing number two. 00:03:22
Grown-ups never understand by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to always be and forever 00:03:28
explaining things to them. So then I chose another profession and learned to pilot airplanes. 00:03:34
I have flown all over parts of the world, and it is true that geography has been very useful to me. 00:03:41
At a glance, I can distinguish China from Arizona, which is in America. 00:03:48
If one gets lost in the night, such knowledge is very valuable. 00:03:53
In the course of this life, I have had many great encounters with a great many people who have been concerned with matters of consequence. 00:03:58
I have lived a great deal among grown-ups I have seen them intimately close at hand 00:04:06
and that hasn't much improved my opinion of them whenever I met one of them who seemed to me at 00:04:13
all clear-sighted I tried the experiment of showing them my drawing which I've always kept 00:04:21
I would try to find out so if this person is of true understanding but whoever she he or she was 00:04:26
they would always say, that is a hat. Then I would never talk to that person about boa constrictors 00:04:33
or primeval forests or stars. I would bring myself down to their level. I would talk to him about 00:04:39
bridge and golf and politics and neckties. And the grown-up would be greatly pleased to have met such 00:04:46
a sensible man. So that was chapter one of the story. I hope you guys enjoyed. I know some of 00:04:54
it might be a little confusing, so I would definitely recommend to look on YouTube for 00:05:01
the little prints, and maybe there's some pictures and drawings you guys can follow along. I'm sorry 00:05:07
I don't have the book in front of me. I don't have an actual copy of the book, but I was able to find 00:05:12
it on the internet, so I hope that is good enough. And yeah, I hope you guys are all staying very safe 00:05:18
and healthy, and I hope your families are doing okay. I miss seeing you guys every day, and I know 00:05:24
that um i know that this is gonna this is gonna pass and that one day you'll all be able to go 00:05:30
to school again and and we'll all be able to go outside and enjoy ourselves but in the meantime 00:05:35
for now please stay safe stay inside with your families and i hope to see you guys soon bye 00:05:39
