You're watching UNICEF Television. 00:00:00
Action! 00:00:03
My name is Stephen Swanky, I'm from Sierra Leone. 00:00:04
I've never participated in a filming program like this one. 00:00:07
And this one is called One Minute Video, I participated in it. 00:00:11
And everybody is supposed to design a One Minute Video 00:00:13
based on the topic we have identified during the workshop. 00:00:16
The One Minute Junior is a project where we engage young people in video making 00:00:20
and it's also storytelling. 00:00:26
We really encourage them to tell their own stories in a short format, in a one minute format. 00:00:28
There's a definite theme, it's the children's rights theme, 00:00:33
it's the Convention on the Rights of the Child. 00:00:35
So each child has been asked to make a video based on one of the conventions. 00:00:37
But the good thing is that they're very creative in the way that they're expressing those rights, 00:00:42
so it's not just a very serious view on the rights of children, 00:00:46
but instead they've been encouraged to be very creative and imaginative with expressing those rights. 00:00:49
I chose child soldiers, and I decided to choose that because in my country we had about 10 years of the K-War 00:00:53
and during the war many children were recruited as child soldiers. 00:01:00
We were forcefully recruited, taken from their parents, and we were forced to join the army. 00:01:03
During the war many of them lost their school, they lost their future. 00:01:07
Many of them also died, lost their parents. 00:01:10
So when I came here, I thought that among the topics that we identified, 00:01:12
that could be one of the appropriate ones. 00:01:18
When the children are making the films themselves, 00:01:20
they know the rights that concern them, and they know their goals. 00:01:23
Many organisations are trying to educate people not to involve children in war. 00:01:31
So I do believe, from my video I selected, and the one-minute video programme, 00:01:34
if people look at it, I think that can help to also cement the change that we wanted to have. 00:01:39
There are many children who do not know their rights yet, 00:01:45
and I think if they watch our films, some of them will begin to know something about the rights of children. 00:01:48
Every child has a story to tell that deserves to be listened to. 00:01:55
