Hello everyone this is Kory and we are going to continue talking about heat and light. Today we 00:00:00
will be discussing transforming light into heat. When light energy hits an object some of the 00:00:11
energy is absorbed by the object. So let's say an object like a dog is hit 00:00:25
with light energy from the Sun. That dog will take in some of the light energy. 00:00:37
The object will absorb some of the light energy. This energy makes the molecules 00:00:45
of the object vibrate faster. So the molecules of the dog will vibrate faster. 00:00:57
They will essentially be shaking more quickly. When we touch the object, we feel 00:01:07
this vibration as heat. So when you pet the dog, the dog will feel warmer. The 00:01:18
fast vibrations of the molecules in the dog are felt as heat. More light energy 00:01:28
is absorbed by dark colors so more light energy is transformed into heat in 00:01:40
in objects that are dark. 00:01:53
So dark colors absorb more light energy. 00:02:00
They take in more light energy. 00:02:06
So more light energy is transformed into heat 00:02:10
in these dark objects. 00:02:16
This is the opposite for light colored objects. 00:02:23
Objects that have a lighter color reflect light energy. 00:02:27
Light colors do not absorb much light energy. 00:02:34
This means less light energy is transformed into heat energy in light-colored objects. 00:02:40
