Hi guys, I hope you're well. Today we're going to talk about reported speech, but before we can talk about reported speech, let's just discuss direct speech, okay?
00:00:00
So, direct speech is what someone says when they speak. If you hear this and then tell someone what was said, that is reported speech.
00:00:12
So, an example of this is, Joe said I like playing football.
00:00:25
This is direct speech.
00:00:31
But if he said, Joe said that he liked playing football.
00:00:34
This is reported speech.
00:00:39
Okay?
00:00:41
Now, it's quite a simple concept, but you have to make a few changes to change speech from direct to reported.
00:00:43
Okay?
00:00:51
Reported speech is one step in the past from direct speech because it happens after the
00:00:51
original words were said. So, the verb has to change. Like playing becomes liked playing.
00:00:58
Liked pasta becomes had liked pasta. All the correct verb changes are going to be shown in
00:01:08
this diagram. So I'm going to give you a few examples. If you pause the video and then we
00:01:19
can check to see whether you've got them correct. Okay. Okay. I'm going to show you the answers in
00:01:31
three, two, one. How did you do? As you can see, we've had to change the verb to suit the tense.
00:01:41
so I hope that's helped you
00:01:54
and that's all I have
00:01:57
so good luck
00:02:00
