There are many different types of computers, but they all use similar parts to operate. 00:00:00
In this video, we're going to show you what these parts are and what they're used for, 00:00:06
starting with a standard desktop model. 00:00:12
The computer case holds the main components of the computer. 00:00:17
This is where the actual processing happens. 00:00:20
Today, most cases are what we call tower cases, 00:00:24
which means they stand up vertically, but they can also come in other shapes and sizes. 00:00:29
To view things on your computer, you'll need a monitor. The monitor uses the video processor 00:00:35
inside your computer case to display images, text, and other content. 00:00:43
Most monitors have an LCD or LED display, both of which are very thin so they don't take up much 00:00:49
space. All-in-one models are even more compact since they combine the monitor 00:00:58
and the computer case into a single unit. To interact with your computer you'll 00:01:05
need a keyboard and a mouse. Keyboards come in many different styles including 00:01:11
wireless and ergonomic. The mouse is used to control the mouse pointer on this 00:01:17
screen so you can click and interact with your computer. Most mice detect 00:01:23
movement using an optical sensor on the bottom. Underneath you'll find a small 00:01:30
electronic eye. Laptops combine all of these things into one that includes the 00:01:36
components that are normally inside the computer case plus a built-in screen, 00:01:44
keyboard, and touchpad. The touchpad is a small touch-sensitive area that takes 00:01:50
the place of a traditional mouse. It lets you control the mouse pointer using a 00:01:58
drawing motion with your finger. Laptops offer the best of both worlds when it 00:02:04
comes to portability. You can use them on the go thanks to the built-in battery or 00:02:09
Or you can connect a separate monitor, keyboard, and mouse, 00:02:17
effectively turning your laptop into a desktop. 00:02:23
So those are the basic parts of any computer setup. 00:02:27
As you can see, each part plays an important role, 00:02:31
which you'll come to understand as you spend more and more time with your computer. 00:02:34
