As you can see, we are the IES Tirso de Molina, from Madrid, Vallecas. 00:00:00
Throughout this 2020-2021 course, we have participated in the Dos Orillas project, 00:00:05
proposed as a virtual exchange with several educational centers in the County of San Diego, in California. 00:00:11
The entire alumni, regardless of the activity in which they were participating, 00:00:18
made short presentation videos, usually in their mother tongue, Spanish. 00:00:23
For this, the star tool in this project has been Flipgrid, which allows not only to record short videos with varied effects, but also to respond both with a comment and with another video. 00:00:28
Then, the different activities would take place, in which the student would use the language of learning, in this case, English. 00:00:40
These are the activities that we have developed. 00:00:47
María Suárez, also from English, has carried out an activity in which her first-year student 00:01:14
from high school had to make a video in English presenting the best itinerary for a 7-day 00:01:19
stay in different cities in Spain. 00:01:24
In addition, her students and those from Rancho Bernardo High School have had online conference 00:01:27
sessions where they have spoken about varied topics, such as the snowstorm, or have even 00:01:33
learned to carry out a job interview. 00:01:37
Our English partner, Marta González, has worked with the first year of high school collaborating 00:01:41
not only with the Rancho Bernardo High School, but also with the IES Josep Miquel Guardia 00:01:45
from Menorca. 00:01:50
His alumnus has made personal presentations and video exhibitions on different 00:01:52
topics that were later commented, also in video, by students from the other 00:01:57
institutes. 00:02:01
For his part, Vicente Valdivieso and Ana Hernández participated in their groups of 00:02:02
with students from Rancho Bernardo High School. 00:02:07
After the relevant presentation videos, 00:02:10
the students wrote short texts in Padlet 00:02:13
or uploaded audio and photo notes. 00:02:16
In music, the teacher Agurchane Primo 00:02:18
and her third year student 00:02:21
got involved in a project with El Capitán High School, 00:02:23
exchanging materials and videos of both music classes, 00:02:26
instrumental interpretations, chorales, choreographies, etc. 00:02:29
alternating the used language. 00:03:04
Apart from Flipgrid, WeVideo has been used to make videos and presentations, 00:03:06
Google Drive to host them, Padlet as a virtual tablet, 00:03:11
Band.us in the music project and Zoom for simultaneous sessions, 00:03:15
not only with the student of San Diego, but also with the teacher, 00:03:20
when the activities had to be coordinated. 00:03:24
And how has the exchange benefited our student? 00:03:26
Let's hear some first-hand testimonies. 00:03:29
We are from the Molina Institute, which is in Madrid, and we have participated in the project Dos Orillas. 00:03:31
We are very happy to have lived this experience and very happy to have met you. 00:03:36
What I liked the most about this exchange was being able to know other cultures. 00:03:41
I see how the people of other high schools speak Spanish and English. I learned a lot of things. 00:03:46
It seemed to me a unique and unforgettable experience, but adapted to the pandemic. 00:03:54
What I liked the most was talking to people I don't know. 00:04:00
A language that I really like. 00:04:04
I really liked meeting people from the United States, 00:04:06
knowing that not everything is the same as in the movies. 00:04:09
We have practiced a lot of English. 00:04:11
It has motivated me to continue learning more English. 00:04:14
I really liked the idea of being able to work with other institutes 00:04:18
that have a different language, 00:04:22
and I would really like to do the same next year. 00:04:24
