Titan TV in Pembroke reports about the visit of the American students to Spain as part of the cultural exchange.
During February vacation last month, PHS Spanish teacher Christine Noguera took a group of her students to Spain to participate in the second part of the foreign exchange program.
00:00:00
While there, Ms. Noguera caught up with some of the students to talk about their experiences and some of the things they'll remember most about the program.
00:00:08
Well, Maite, I wanted to ask you, how do you think the bilingual program is going?
00:00:15
Well, I think it is going perfectly well. They are very enthusiastic about it.
00:00:22
about it. It is a great opportunity for them to develop their skills. Mine too. I'm learning
00:00:27
too. So we are learning together. So it is a great experience, not only for them but
00:00:36
also for me. I think it's great.
00:00:40
Great. Thank you.
00:00:43
I'm Laura.
00:00:44
And Jenna.
00:00:45
Okay. And Jenna, what's it like living with your host family here in Spain?
00:00:46
It's fun, but it's a little weird because I'm with the teachers.
00:00:53
But I like it. It's fun.
00:00:59
And what's it like having them in your house here in Spain?
00:01:01
It's great. It's amazing to wake them up and make them smile and see them improve their Spanish.
00:01:05
Awesome. Okay.
00:01:13
So what has been the best part of the exchange for you, would you say?
00:01:16
My favorite part is probably in the car when you like look out the window and like it's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen in your entire life.
00:01:20
Like in like the bus rides, like to Segovia and the mountains. It was beautiful.
00:01:29
Laura, do you think it was harder for you in the United States or for Jenna here in Spain?
00:01:35
Probably for her, because I've been to the United States before and I kind of like spoke fluent English.
00:01:42
But like she needs to keep improving and she will, I'm sure.
00:01:51
So I think she had it difficult, but she'll do it.
00:01:57
And how will you guys keep in touch after the exchange program? Jenna, what do you think?
00:02:03
What's up, probably, and Snapchat.
00:02:09
What do you think?
00:02:13
Yeah, yeah, there are a lot of ways, like social media, and we'll see each other.
00:02:14
I'm Travis.
00:02:23
I'm Sergio.
00:02:24
Okay, and what is it like living with your host family here in Spain?
00:02:25
It's really cool. They're really nice. They took care of me a lot.
00:02:32
It's very different from America, but I like it.
00:02:36
but I like it. How is it different? The schedules are very different. They eat much later than
00:02:38
we do. Okay. Like what time? I think last time we ate at like what, 10 o'clock? 10,
00:02:44
yeah. Yeah. So dinner was at like 10 o'clock? Yeah. Just a little late. Very. And what was
00:02:50
it like living with Travis's family in the United States really nice it was I
00:03:02
would experience and we have fun it's different not here because they have
00:03:08
schedules we have lunch very earlier here we have lunch we talked about the
00:03:15
schedules, so do you think that it was harder for you to be here in Spain, or was it harder
00:03:26
for Sergio to be in the United States?
00:03:38
I think it was harder for him in the United States, because I still got to sleep for like
00:03:41
seven or eight hours every night, so that was pretty nice.
00:03:45
Sergio, what do you think?
00:03:48
I don't know. I think it was harder for him because we have a lot of plans here.
00:03:50
What did you expect and what did you not expect before you came to Spain?
00:03:57
I'm going to ask you the same thing.
00:04:03
What did you expect and what did you not expect?
00:04:04
I expected a lot of food, which I wasn't that down on that.
00:04:08
I didn't expect the amount of cars and the different type of cars.
00:04:12
I thought that was kind of different.
00:04:16
and I didn't really expect as much public transportation as we who's
00:04:17
walking everywhere that's different what did you expect in the United States and
00:04:21
not expect oh yeah I expect the same things the big cars because here we have
00:04:28
a small cars and the food is very flat the houses it was bigger down here so
00:04:34
what are your names? I'm Sarah. I'm Adrian. Okay. And Sarah, we're going to start with you.
00:04:46
Which part of the exchange program did you prefer? Being in Spain or being in the United States?
00:04:54
I definitely liked Spain a lot because I've never been to Spain before, so I got to try a lot of
00:05:00
new things and activities and stuff. Excellent. What about you, Adrian? I prefer the part of
00:05:05
United States because I have never traveled before out of Europe, so it's an experience.
00:05:12
Excellent, okay. So what made the biggest impression on you? What surprised you the
00:05:19
most or what just made an impression on you in the Spanish portion of the exchange, Sarah?
00:05:28
Definitely how late they eat dinner because usually like we're in bed by the time they eat
00:05:34
dinner. Especially on school nights and stuff. It's fun. It's different. I like it.
00:05:39
And what made an impression on you? What surprised you about being in the United
00:05:43
States? The bigger of the things. Like it's more, it's bigger than here. Like the
00:05:50
food, the stores, all the things. And Sarah, what is it like living with Adriana's
00:05:57
family I love them they're really nice and there his mom is asked they're
00:06:06
absolutely the parents are it's really nice and the mom is definitely much
00:06:11
better cook than my mom really good at cooking like and she ever make sure I
00:06:15
want to always make sure I'm full and then what was it like living with the
00:06:21
trophy arms they are really nice I'm very welcoming with me like I was like
00:06:26
another brother for them so it's very good for me bye guys
