Hello! How's everyone doing? I hope everyone's safe and I hope everyone's doing very well. 00:00:00
So today I'm going to read a short story for you called Fur and Feathers and I really hope 00:00:06
you'll enjoy it. So here it goes. Fur and Feathers. The pride and joy of Mama Ostrich 00:00:13
were her two baby chicks, hatched from her very own eggs. One day, when Mama Ostrich came back home 00:00:22
from getting food for her two dear chicks, she looked and she looked, but she could not find 00:00:31
her chicks anywhere. Then, oh my, what did she see but lion tracks on the ground? And right next to 00:00:37
those tracks were her two-footed chicks' tracks. Sore with fear, Mama Ostrich knew that she must 00:00:47
find her babies, and so she followed the lion tracks. The lion tracks led into the woods and 00:00:54
ended up at a cave. Mama Ostrich stepped up to the opening of the cave and looked in. There were her 00:01:04
own dear chicks in the arms of Mama Lion. What are you doing with my chicks? cried Mama Ostrich. 00:01:12
Give them back to me at once. What do you mean your chicks? Mama Lion rose her head and growled. 00:01:21
These are my cubs. That is plain to see. It's not at all plain to see, said Mama Ostrich. 00:01:31
those are chicks, ostrich chicks, and I'm an ostrich, and you're a lion. Is that so, Mama Lion 00:01:39
said with a snarl, then you will have no problem finding any other animal who agrees with you. 00:01:48
I dare you, find any animal at all that will look me in the eye and tell me that these are not my 00:01:57
cubs. Do that and I will give them back to you. Mama lion raised her big lion head and roared a 00:02:05
wild roar. Mama ostrich ran quickly off to the woods. She must tell each and every animal that 00:02:14
she was calling a meeting to talk about this terrible crime. When she came to the home of 00:02:24
the mongoose and told him her sad story, mongoose thought and thought. Then he had an idea. He said 00:02:31
she should go to an anthill that was deep in the woods. This anthill was so high it was taller than 00:02:40
many animals. She should dig a hole in front of that anthill and she should keep digging until 00:02:48
the hole came back up behind the anthill. That was a very odd thing to do. Why? asked Mama Ostrich. 00:02:55
I am very busy. Listen, said Mongoose. He said the hole must come up behind the anthill 00:03:04
where no one could see it. When she was done digging the hole, she should tell all the 00:03:12
animals in the woods, and Mama Lion too, to come to that very anthill at sunset. And so Mama Ostrich 00:03:18
went to the anthill and dug a hole. She went about to tell all the animals to meet her there at 00:03:27
sunset that very night. When all the animals were at the anthill, she told them how Mama Lion had 00:03:35
taken away her dear sweet chicks. The zebras and antelopes and all the other animals 00:03:43
looked at the chicks held by Mama Lion and they nodded. But when Mama Ostrich said she 00:03:50
needed just one animal to look Mama Lion in the eye and tell her that she was not the mother of 00:04:02
the chicks, each and every animal in the meeting looked down at the ground. One by one, when each 00:04:10
animal was asked, each animal said in a soft whisper that the little ones belonged to Mama 00:04:17
Lion, and there was no question about that. When it came to Mongoose, he cried out, 00:04:25
Have you ever seen a mama with fur with babies that had feathers? Think of what you're saying. 00:04:33
Mama lion has fur. The chicks have feathers. They belong to the ostrich. Then Mongoose jumped down 00:04:41
the hole in front of the anthill. Down, down the hole he went to where it came out the other end, 00:04:49
and quickly he ran off into the woods before anyone could see him run. Mama Lion tried to 00:04:56
leap after him when Mongoose had jumped down the hole, but he was too fast. And when Mama Lion 00:05:04
went after the Mongoose, the two ostrich chicks were freed. Of course, they ran right into their 00:05:12
mother's open wings. Not knowing about the hole behind the anthill, Mama Lion paced and paced by 00:05:20
the anthill hill. The other animals at the meeting very slowly and with care stepped away one by one 00:05:28
and Mama Lion was left waiting at the front of the anthill for a very very long time. 00:05:38
I hope you guys enjoyed that story okay bye 00:05:45
