Welcome to the beautiful city of Paris!
Beautiful Paris forever, Paris and the banks of the Seine.
00:00:00
Welcome to the beautiful city of Paris.
00:00:06
On the right is the famous Orsay Museum, once a railway station,
00:00:10
it now houses masterpieces by artists such as Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh.
00:00:14
Ahead is the Ile de la Cité, Cité Island.
00:00:23
The city of Paris first developed from the island and along the left bank of the Seine.
00:00:32
Next we go past Notre Dame Cathedral, a symbol of Paris.
00:00:38
Notre Dame means Our Lady, the cathedral was dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
00:00:43
This is the Louvre Museum, formerly a palace for French kings.
00:00:50
Exhibits inside include Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa and the statue of Venus de Milo.
00:00:56
There is a reason why Paris' skyline is so beautifully maintained.
00:01:10
It's due to legislation known as l'iffouzo, which protects the cityscape.
00:01:16
This map shows details of l'iffouzo regulated areas in Paris.
00:01:22
This is a view taken from the apex of the triangle-shaped regulated area.
00:01:27
The regulation is designed to protect the landscape within this field of vision.
00:01:32
If we take Les Invalides as an example,
00:01:37
the scope of view one would have of Les Invalides from the front facade would be like this.
00:01:40
L'iffouzo is based upon this field of vision
00:01:46
and outlaws building construction within that area which would spoil the view.
00:01:49
L'iffouzo regulations are also applied to the World Heritage List inscribed River Seine.
00:01:55
Nevertheless, application of l'iffouzo itself doesn't guarantee eternal protection of the Paris landscape.
00:02:02
For example, the view from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe is regulated by l'iffouzo.
00:02:09
However, when we look closer, there are buildings in the background beside the Arc de Triomphe.
00:02:15
The buildings stand outside the Paris city boundary where l'iffouzo regulation was not applicable.
00:02:22
We hope that the beauties and pleasures of the city of Paris will be preserved and remain with us forever.
