good morning boys and girls how are you today i'm fine and happy to be here with you 00:00:01
in a new social science class so let's going to start with the class let's going to 00:00:07
review a little bit as you remember we have five four periods in history so pre pre-history that 00:00:16
you have learned with noemi the other day and today we are going to focus on ancient history 00:00:28
okay the second one as you can see here in the timeline is the green one okay here this one 00:00:38
so we are going to talk about ancient history okay okay so in ancient history ancient history 00:00:46
started when people invented the writing so as you remember in the other class we said that the 00:00:57
prehistory ends or ended when people invented writing so if prehistory ended when people 00:01:07
invented writing, Asian history started when people invented writing, okay? So you need to 00:01:19
remember that the invention of writing marks the end of prehistory and the beginning of Asian 00:01:28
history okay in asian history the first civilizations appeared what's the meaning of that 00:01:39
so the first group of people in in a very organized way with cities well something similar 00:01:49
but you can imagine with cities with a real real organization appear we are going to study two of 00:01:59
them okay we are going to talk about the greeks and the romans okay let's going to start with the 00:02:09
greeks so the greeks invented the democracy what is that the democracy means government by the 00:02:16
people okay nowadays we have also a democracy in spain so imagine it's a really old term 00:02:28
And thanks to the Greeks, we have now the democracy. 00:02:40
More things you have to know about Greeks. 00:02:46
So Greeks made beautiful buildings and sculptures. 00:02:50
As you can see here in the pictures. 00:02:55
Really, really important. 00:03:00
If you like sports, you need to know that Greeks invented the Olympic Games. 00:03:02
also they invented coins they wrote books about many things so they they studied a lot of things 00:03:09
but for example one of the most important ones was science so they wrote a lot of books and 00:03:25
documents about science related with the coins they they bought and sold objects so these the 00:03:32
the the action of buying and selling objects is they call trade okay and they believed in many 00:03:44
gods as you can see here they don't they didn't have only one god they had um several ones so 00:03:58
here we have almost 10 or 11 but they they had a lot of god they had a god for almost everything 00:04:08
so imagine they have a god they had a god for the house they had a god for the sea 00:04:18
they had a god for the family so they had a lot of gods and the greeks came to the iberian 00:04:28
peninsula do you remember the iberian peninsula and they call it iberia okay so here is the 00:04:42
Iberian Peninsula as you remember the Iberian Peninsula is Spain and Portugal together okay 00:04:52
and they call it Iberia so let's going to talk about Romans Romans also came to the Iberian 00:05:00
Peninsula and they call it Hispania okay now it's similar to our name it is also important to know 00:05:13
that romans conquered and established a big big big big empire so as you 00:05:26
can you imagine whole europe so if you can see a picture of europe whole continent 00:05:35
were from the romans so they were in whole europe oh sorry so this means a big big empire okay 00:05:44
things you need to know about romans so romans built many roads and cities also 00:05:56
roads are not exactly as we as our roads nowadays but it was very very important because 00:06:05
thanks to these roads you can move from one city to another one also roman invented a language 00:06:16
called latin and this language was very important because um was the the language for 00:06:26
for study for the knowledge for science and also spanish comes from latin this is a reason because 00:06:36
we have similar words, okay? Or words that are similar in spelling or in pronunciation. 00:06:48
English, not. As you can imagine, English is not a Latin language. 00:06:56
Romans also trade objects. As I told you before when we were talking about Greeks, 00:07:05
trade means buy and sell objects okay romans also build a lot of buildings and sculptures 00:07:12
as you can see here in the picture because roman built buildings one of the most important building 00:07:23
or constructions they they made were aqueducts because this building or this important 00:07:34
building carry water to the cities finally romans also believed in many gods then the roman empire 00:07:44
ended in 476 a.d and this is an important year or an important date that you should remember 00:07:59
because it's the end of the Asian history. 00:08:09
This is all for today, guys, boys, girls. 00:08:15
And if you need more help or you have any questions, please, Noemi and I are here. 00:08:19
And we are happy to know about you and to help you if you need anything. 00:08:28
So see you in this class. Bye bye. 00:08:36
hello boys and girls how are you today let's going to start with the new unit 00:08:39
the new class hello boys and girls how are you today I am very happy to be here 00:08:46
all the day with you and finishing the unit five of social science so let's 00:08:55
going to to talk about the last period okay the modern age the early modern age and the modern age 00:09:03
okay as you know we we are going to review that we can divide it history in this period 00:09:14
pre-history asian history the middle ages and the one that we are going to talk today that is 00:09:23
early modern age and modern age okay so in the early modern age started in 1492 00:09:32
in this year well was when columbus discovered america okay and during this period a lot of 00:09:43
explorers discovered many many new places okay in this period of time people were 00:09:54
were curious about new lands new the the other part of the world okay so many many places were 00:10:04
discovered also in sorry because okay in this period it is this period in spain is also called 00:10:15
the golden age okay maybe in spanish is is more familiar more familiar for you 00:10:26
okay so in spain the name was different but was a really really important 00:10:35
period of time for art and literature okay so in this period of time we have 00:10:43
explorers that discovered new places and also was very important for art and 00:10:52
literature okay as I told you the explorers discovered a lot of new 00:11:01
places and Spain was a really really huge Empire okay so Spain conquered many 00:11:12
lands in America Asia and Africa and established a big Empire so as you can 00:11:23
see here in the picture the red the red lands the lands colored in red was 00:11:30
Spanish ones okay so as you can see it's not only Spain as we know today we have 00:11:38
new lands in America in South America in Asia okay so Spain was a really big 00:11:46
Empire okay and the second period of time the modern age started in 1789 and 00:11:55
And during the 19th century, there were many important changes and inventions, okay? 00:12:09
And this period of time is called the Industrial Revolution, okay? 00:12:17
Because many factories appeared, new machines appeared, okay? 00:12:22
Appeared, so this is the reason because it's called Industrial Revolution, okay? 00:12:28
also one of the most famous and important inventions was the steam trains trains that 00:12:34
could move with a steam okay so it's a really really important invention for this time 00:12:46
what else so and during the 20th century people live very in in better conditions 00:12:56
okay because new machines appears for washing for cleaning for cooking making our lives easier 00:13:06
okay also cars trains planes were invented so people can move easily okay to one place for 00:13:15
another and finally as i said ordinary people could see the doctor and go to the school 00:13:27
and entertainment changed because the radio the television and the cinema were invented 00:13:35
entertainment means activities for pleasure or for having fun okay 00:13:46
that's all you need to know about the early modern age and the modern age so you can watch this video 00:13:55
as many times as you need you can read the book you can listen the audio clips in the digital book 00:14:05
and of course you can ask me or the teacher noemi as many questions as you need okay so 00:14:14
bye bye guys see you next class have fun 00:14:23
