Hi everyone. So, today we're going to have another look at present perfect. 00:00:00
Now, if you remember, one of the reasons that we use present perfect is to talk about experiences. 00:00:06
But another way is to talk about an action that started in the past and continues up until the present. 00:00:13
Now, we can use words like FOR or SINCE with the present perfect to talk about the time that has passed since the action happened. 00:00:22
So, for example, I have lived in Spain for 16 years. 00:00:36
Or, I have lived in Spain since 2004. 00:00:42
We have been at home now for 5 weeks. 00:00:47
We have been at home since the 14th of March. 00:00:52
Can you see the differences in the sentences with for and since? 00:00:58
We use for when we can count the time that has passed. 00:01:04
For two days, for four hours, for nine months. 00:01:11
For example, I haven't eaten for five hours. 00:01:16
I'm so hungry. 00:01:20
Miss Helen has taught English for 21 years. 00:01:22
And we use since when we look at the starting point of the action, when it began. 00:01:28
Since last month, since February. 00:01:35
So, for example, I haven't eaten since breakfast. 00:01:39
