Waste. What happens to the rubbish we put in the bin? Read and think. 00:00:00
1. What type of waste is A. A plastic bag, B. A banana skin, C. A drinks can, or D. A broken mobile phone? 00:00:07
Waste is all the rubbish that we throw away. 00:00:18
For example, a yogurt pot, an old notebook, a broken glass, a banana skin, or eggshells. 00:00:21
There are four types of rubbish. 00:00:30
Organic waste comes from plants and animals. 00:00:32
It is biodegradable. 00:00:35
Bacteria and other living things decompose it and over time it disappears back into the environment. 00:00:38
Recyclable waste is all the objects made of materials that can be made into new objects. 00:00:46
Examples are cans, plastic bottles, newspapers, cardboard boxes, and glass. 00:00:53
Non-recyclable waste can be made into new objects. 00:01:01
Or can't, excuse me. 00:01:06
Non-recyclable waste cannot be made into new objects. 00:01:08
Things like plastic bags and nappies are taken to a hole in the ground called a landfill site and covered with soil. 00:01:13
So they're just basically put back into the ground where nothing's going to happen to them. 00:01:22
Sometimes it pollutes the land and water. It's very bad. 00:01:29
E-waste is any electronic device, for example, mobile phones, DVDs, televisions, or computers. 00:01:34
These objects contain toxic substances, and they are taken to a special place to treat them. 00:01:42
So you shouldn't be throwing away your old Nintendos into the trash. 00:01:49
You have to dispose of them or throw them away in very specific places because they can be toxic. 00:01:54
I know how to reduce waste. 00:02:02
Look at the photos. 00:02:05
Which of these things should you do? 00:02:06
Which shouldn't you? 00:02:08
take your bags when you go shopping like take your own bag from home buy food with lots of packaging 00:02:09
use normal batteries write on both sides of the paper reuse instead of throwing away recycle 00:02:17
everything possible 00:02:27
