Have you filled a bucket today? By Carol McLeod. Illustrated by Second A and B. 00:00:00
All day long, everyone in the whole wide world walks around carrying an invisible bucket. 00:00:11
You can't see it, but each day you have a bucket. Each member of your family has a bucket. 00:00:22
Your grandparents, friends and neighbors all have a bucket. Everyone carries an invisible bucket. 00:00:40
Your bucket has one purpose only. Its purpose is to hold your good thoughts and good feelings about yourself. 00:00:53
You feel very happy and good when your bucket is full. And you feel very sad and lonely when your bucket is empty. 00:01:04
Other people feel the same way too. They are happy when their buckets are full and they're sad when their buckets are empty. 00:01:21
It's great to have a full bucket and this is how it works. You need other people to fill your bucket and other people need you to fill theirs. 00:01:36
You can fill your own bucket too. So how do you fill a bucket? 00:01:55
You fill a bucket when you show love to someone, when you say or do something kind, or even when you give someone a smile. 00:02:04
A bucket filler is a loving, caring person who says or does nice things that make others feel special. 00:02:21
When you make someone feel special, you are filling a bucket. 00:02:35
But you can also dip into a bucket and take out some good feelings. 00:02:44
You dip into a bucket when you make fun of someone, when you say or do mean things, or even when you ignore someone. 00:02:53
That's being a bucket dipper. 00:03:05
Many people who dip into an empty bucket think they can fill their own bucket. 00:03:12
By dipping into someone else's bucket will never work. 00:03:21
You never fill your own bucket when you dip into someone else's bucket. 00:03:28
But guess what? When you fill someone's bucket, you fill your own bucket too. 00:03:36
You feel good when you help others feel good. 00:03:44
Try to fill a bucket and see what happens. 00:03:52
You love your family? Why not tell them you love them? You can't even tell them why. 00:03:58
Your caring words will fill their buckets right up. 00:04:12
Watch for a smile, though, like on their faces. 00:04:20
You will feel like smiling too. 00:04:27
A smile is a good clue that you have filled a bucket. 00:04:32
If you practice, you will become a great bucket filler. 00:04:41
Just remember that everyone carries an invisible bucket. 00:04:47
And think of what you can say or do to fill it. 00:04:53
Here are some ideas for you. 00:05:01
You go and smile and say hi to the bus driver. 00:05:05
You could invite the new kids at school to play with you. 00:05:11
You could write a thank you note to your teacher. 00:05:19
You could tell your grandpa that you like to spend time with him. 00:05:26
There are many ways to fill a bucket. 00:05:39
Bucket filling is fun and easy to do. 00:05:44
It doesn't matter how young or old you are. 00:05:48
It doesn't cost any money. 00:05:53
It doesn't take much time. 00:05:57
And remember, when you fill someone's bucket, you fill your own bucket too. 00:06:00
When you are a bucket filler, you make your home, your school, and your neighborhood better places to be. 00:06:08
Bucket filling makes everyone feel good. 00:06:18
