In much of the world, getting a drink looks like this.
00:00:04
For more than one billion people, water is scarce, unsafe, or simply a burden.
00:00:07
Then there's New York, where water is clean, cool, even comes in a variety of colors,
00:00:14
and most of all, it's affordable.
00:00:19
So on World Water Day, restaurants around the city will ask their patrons
00:00:23
to reconsider the value of the water they drink
00:00:26
by asking them to pay for this, what they are used to paying for this.
00:00:29
Some diners have heard about the project.
00:00:35
One dollar, if you buy your tap water for a dollar,
00:00:37
it's contributed to UNICEF in building clean water wells in Africa.
00:00:40
Many have not.
00:00:43
Dollars, no kidding.
00:00:45
Others know the bigger picture.
00:00:47
So creating and raising awareness about water usage
00:00:49
by charging one dollar for tap water, I think is an excellent idea,
00:00:53
and I encourage everybody to support this initiative.
00:00:58
The 200 restaurants participating in the tap project
00:01:02
range from five-star establishments to storefront eateries.
00:01:05
They share a willingness to raise awareness and funds for a worthy cause.
00:01:09
So is New York ready to open wallets for an open tap?
00:01:15
I would definitely be willing to pay a dollar.
00:01:18
Yeah, I would.
00:01:20
Yes, of course.
00:01:21
One dollar, one day, to quench the thirst of millions.
