Natalia asks questions about the BLM movement and topics related.
And in this last video, I'm going to ask some discussion questions based on the topics of this
00:00:00
week so that we can get into a critical discussion if you're interested. So you'll do the same thing
00:00:06
that you did before. You can listen to the question, pause it, answer it, and then listen
00:00:12
to my answer as an example. My first question is, how do you think social media impacts social
00:00:17
movements? I personally think that there are a couple of different ways that social media impacts
00:00:26
social movements. So social media allows people to share information quickly and in an ideal
00:00:34
situation efficiently. It also lets people talk about their experiences on a platform that can
00:00:40
amplify their voice and reach more people. So instead of just being able to talk to maybe the
00:00:48
people that are in the same room as them or who go to the same church as them or who go to the
00:00:52
same school as them. Maybe they're able to reach a bigger audience overall and maybe a more global
00:00:57
audience or a national audience. A possible negative impact that social media could have
00:01:04
on social movements is it could make it easier for people who disagree with social movements
00:01:11
to find people who are protesting and to enact retribution in some way. So that could be another
00:01:16
way that it impacts social movements in a negative way, potentially. Question number two.
00:01:24
Can you give me an example of a modern social movement that is taking place or being discussed
00:01:31
in Spain? So I think that I answered this question. I do not know a ton about social
00:01:36
movements that have been happening in spain but i would love to hear your perspective you can go
00:01:44
back and listen to my first video on a modern social movement that's happening in the united
00:01:48
states um with that of the black lives matter movement if you'd like an example um but some
00:01:52
movements that you could potentially talk about maybe you're talking about a movement against
00:01:57
racism against sexism homophobia maybe gentrification um economic inequality transphobia
00:02:02
you name it, I am here to hear about it. I would love to hear your perspective about things that
00:02:12
are going on in Spain. The last question, question number three is, what are some ways that you can
00:02:17
help fight against systematic injustice, whether that is in your community, on a smaller community
00:02:24
level, or around the world? I know it's a hard question. Some answers that I have, because I
00:02:29
don't think there's just one answer to this question are that you could stay informed and
00:02:38
aware. You could do this by reading books and articles, by watching videos, movies, TV shows,
00:02:43
and by keeping an open mind in general. You can also listen to and amplify the voices of oppressed
00:02:50
people, again, whether that's in your communities or globally. And I think it's important to say
00:02:58
that you can listen to oppressed people, both when they're talking about oppression that they've
00:03:04
experienced and also when they're talking about other things. A third thing you could do is donate
00:03:09
money to organizations that are fighting against injustices, organizations that you know are doing
00:03:15
good work and that you've researched. Something that you could do, especially if you have privilege
00:03:22
in some ways, is you could have difficult conversations with people in your life
00:03:26
to educate and increase awareness. So an example of this is I've had many conversations with my
00:03:31
family members about institutional racism in order to help them understand a bit more the
00:03:38
struggles that Black people and people of color face in the United States and around the world.
00:03:45
So you could have those conversations maybe with people who haven't had these conversations before.
00:03:51
you could also show up to protests and marches and listen to the people who have been affected
00:03:55
by different forms of injustice and stand in solidarity with them and my final thing my final
00:04:01
actionable item is that you could stop supporting organizations that are promoting hate
00:04:07
and that are contributing to the problem all right so those are my answers to those questions i would
00:04:13
love to hear your perspectives and thoughts i hope that you're all doing well i hope that you
00:04:19
and your loved ones are safe and healthy. And I look forward to hearing from you. Bye everybody.
