Hello, today we are going to study the digestive system.
00:00:00
First we have to know what is the function of the system in our body.
00:00:06
Well, the digestive system breaks down the food into nutrients that can be absorbed
00:00:10
and that can be transformed into energy in our bodies.
00:00:16
It also takes the water that the body needs.
00:00:20
Here we have a picture of the digestive system where we are going to study the process of digestion.
00:00:25
First, the food is taken by the mouth.
00:00:31
And inside the mouth, this food is grinded by the teeth
00:00:34
and also mixed with the saliva, which is produced by the salivary glands.
00:00:39
So with this process we are going to form the bolus.
00:00:45
The bolus is swallowed and it travels through the pharynx and the esophagus in order to get the stomach.
00:00:48
The stomach secretes the gastric juices, which breaks down this food and transforms the bolus into a substance called chyme.
00:00:56
The chyme travels again to the small intestine, where it's mixed with the intestinal juices.
00:01:05
The intestinal juices are formed by two different substances.
00:01:12
The first one is the pancreatic juice, which is formed in the pancreas.
00:01:17
And the other one is the bile, which is formed in the liver.
00:01:22
So these two substances are mixed with the chyme and the chyme is transformed into chyle.
00:01:26
It's different. The chyle, which was created in the stomach, and now we are going to form in the small intestine the chyle.
00:01:35
Once the chyle is formed, the nutrients are absorbed by the blood capillaries of the small intestine
00:01:44
and they can travel to the whole body through the blood.
00:01:50
But there is another process.
00:01:54
The water and the substances that cannot be digested travel to the large intestine.
00:01:57
And in the large intestine, this water is absorbed, because we have to use the water,
00:02:05
and the substances which cannot be digested are transformed into feces.
00:02:10
The feces are going to leave the body through the anus, because they cannot be used.
00:02:17
So this is the whole process.
00:02:25
There is another thing that you have to know, and it's that once the nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine,
00:02:27
the blood travels to the liver, and in the liver it's cleaned again.
00:02:33
Once this blood is cleaned with the nutrients, then it can travel to the whole body.
00:02:40
This is everything, and I see you in the next presentation. Bye!
