Hello class, it's your teacher Shaila. Today we are going to continue with our unit 00:00:00
about matter and materials. Please turn to page 84 in your natural sciences book 00:00:07
and let's get started. Today we'll be learning about mass, volume, and mixtures. 00:00:17
Objects and materials have mass and volume. Mass is the amount of matter an object has and volume 00:00:25
is how much space it occupies. An object can be small but very heavy. A different object can be 00:00:36
big but very light. Let's start with exercise one. Look at the first picture. 00:00:47
Here we have a red box and a blue box on a scale. A scale is used to measure the 00:00:56
difference in mass between two objects. Here we can see that the red box has 00:01:08
more mass than the blue box. That is why on the scale it is weighing down more toward 00:01:17
the ground because the red box is heavier. So please write mass next to this picture. 00:01:28
Now in this picture, we see here that the blue box 00:01:38
has more volume than the red box. 00:01:43
We can see that because the red box is much bigger 00:01:48
and it takes up more space in the picture than the red box. 00:01:53
So please write volume next to the picture. 00:01:58
So here we have mass and here volume. 00:02:03
Now we'll continue with exercise two. 00:02:09
Which one has the largest mass? 00:02:13
Circle. 00:02:17
So please tell me which you think has the largest mass, 00:02:17
which is the heaviest object. 00:02:22
Here we have a whale, a butterfly, 00:02:25
a feather, a bolt, an apple, and a balloon. 00:02:30
Which is the largest mass? 00:02:38
That would be the whale. 00:02:41
The whale is one of the largest animals 00:02:44
that we have in the animal kingdom. 00:02:47
So a whale has the largest mass. 00:02:50
Let's move forward to exercise three. 00:02:56
You will complete with green or yellow. 00:03:01
So here we have the blank ball has more mass. 00:03:05
Here we see that the yellow ball has more mass. 00:03:11
It weighs more on the scale. 00:03:17
So you should complete the yellow ball has more mass. 00:03:20
Which balloon is bigger in this picture? 00:03:27
Green or yellow? Yes, the green balloon takes up more space and therefore has more volume than the 00:03:33
yellow. So you should complete the sentence, the yellow balloon has more volume. Next we have this 00:03:47
one which is a little bit more challenging. We can see that the yellow box weighs five kilograms 00:03:56
and the green box weighs 15. So which is a larger number? 5 or 15? Yes, 15 is the larger number and so 00:04:04
the green box has more math. Now let's continue on page 85. Here we have an exercise for 00:04:20
pictures of many different ingredients. Ingredients are one of the things that we 00:04:32
use to make a food or product. So here we can see in the first example, we have milk and chocolate. 00:04:40
When we mix milk and chocolate together, what kind of mixture do we get? Do we get salad, 00:04:50
pizza, chocolate milk, or lemonade? Yes, that's correct. Milk and chocolate make 00:04:58
chocolate milk. So you should match this to chocolate milk, the picture, and then 00:05:09
to the words chocolate milk. Next we have water, sugar, and lemons. Do you think 00:05:19
that makes lemonade or pizza? Tell me what you think. Correct. It makes lemonade. Here we have 00:05:27
the picture and here we have lemonade. Next we have lettuce, tomato. 00:05:40
