In this video we are going to talk about the international relations in the 18th century 00:00:01
along with the colonial empires. It's going to be really short. So the first thing we are going to 00:00:08
see is in Europe in the 18th century we are going to have a balance of power, un equilibrio de poder. 00:00:14
What does it mean a balance of power? It means that in Europe there is not going to be 00:00:22
a unique superpower ruling the continent it means there is not going to be a superpower 00:00:29
ruling the continent okay so after this war the 30 years war okay 00:00:37
spain is not going to be anymore the superpower ruling europe and what we are going to find is 00:00:46
a balance between the different countries it means there is not going to be one country 00:00:53
that is going to be strong enough to control all the other european countries only we are going to 00:00:59
find so only we are going to find only countries that they are going to be more or less equal 00:01:06
they are going to be powerful equally so that no one can control the other countries 00:01:13
so this is the idea this is the map of Europe in the 17th century what we see is the Hispanic 00:01:19
monarchy okay that means the Iberian Peninsula Spain in the Iberian Peninsula along with Belgium 00:01:28
Milan Naples Sicily and Sardinia okay so this superpower that is the Hispanic monarchy is going 00:01:34
to rule the continent however in the 18th century Spain is going to lose all 00:01:45
these European territories so Spain is going to be only the Iberian Peninsula 00:01:53
this part of the Iberian Peninsula okay when Spain lost in 1700 00:01:59
okay in 1700 when Spain or the Hispanic monarchy lost these European 00:02:09
territories Spain is going to stop being a superpower in Europe as a result what 00:02:16
we are going to have is just one country here another that is going to be France 00:02:25
the other that is going to be Great Britain Portugal these regions in Italy 00:02:29
or in Germany so what we are going to see is a balance of power it means all 00:02:35
the countries are more or less equally powerful so that there is no superpowers 00:02:42
controlling the continent okay so in Europe this balance of power is going to 00:02:48
remain due to two alliances the alliance of France and Spain and the alliance of 00:02:57
Great Britain and Portugal and these two alliances are going to fight each other 00:03:04
it means France and Spain fought against Portugal and Great Britain so that's the 00:03:10
situation the real situation the reality in the 18th century okay so what we are 00:03:18
going to find is a balance of power no superpowers ruling the continent but 00:03:24
some alliances that they are going to fight each other in order to defeat the 00:03:30
other. Regarding to the international scenario we are going to talk about the 00:03:37
colonial empires. These are going to be the empires in the 18th century. Great 00:03:46
Britain is going to control the 13 colonies and also the Hudson Bay. Also 00:03:53
they are going to control part of India and Australia in the other hand France 00:04:01
is going to control Louisiana and Canada along with Senegal in Africa okay 00:04:11
remember Gambia Sierra Leone are also British okay but they are not that 00:04:19
important Spain is going to control almost all America they are going to 00:04:24
control present-day Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, 00:04:31
Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. As you can see there are four 00:04:40
divisions, Virreinato de Nueva España, that is Mexico and Central America, 00:04:47
Virreinato de Nueva Granada, that is, Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador. 00:04:54
Virreinato del Perú, that is going to be Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. 00:05:07
And finally, Virreinato del Río de la Plata, that is going to be Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. 00:05:12
Portugal, oh, sorry, Spain is controlling also. 00:05:21
you see Florida Cuba and Philippines the Philippines Portugal is going to 00:05:25
control Brazil Angola this name is supposed to be here Angola and Mozambique 00:05:32
also Goa a city in India and Canton and Macau sorry a city in China so what we 00:05:41
is Portugal is controlling territories in America Brazil Africa Angola Mozambique 00:05:52
and Asia Goa and Macau the last country is the Netherlands the Netherlands is 00:05:59
going to control Indonesia okay the West Indies okay the Dutch West Indies 00:06:08
okay so that is the different regions that they are the different colonial 00:06:20
empires that we are going to see in the 18th century what you need to know is 00:06:27
the basic territories they control okay the 13 colonies Hudson Bay and Gambia 00:06:30
Sierra Leone India Australia in case of Great Britain France Louisiana Canada 00:06:38
Canada, and also Senegal, Spain, Latin America, and the Philippines, Portugal, Brazil, Angola, 00:06:44
Mozambique, and Goa, Macau, and finally the Netherlands, Indonesia. 00:06:54
Okay, that would be it. 00:07:01
