Hi, welcome to another science video. Here we've got all the different parts of a plant which you 00:00:05
know perfectly well. Let's review them. What is this? We've got a flower, these are the leaves, 00:00:10
stem and roots. Brilliant. Now what we're going to say today, we're going to say which parts of 00:00:19
the plant we eat. Okay, so I've got here loads of different food that come from plants. So we're 00:00:27
going to say, we're going to be looking, where do they come from? What parts of 00:00:33
the plant are they? You ready? Let's have a look. Right, so we're going to start with a leek. 00:00:37
This is called a leek. Now, which part of the plant would you say a leek is? We do 00:00:45
know it is, but we eat all the rest. What do you think? Is it the flower? Is it the 00:00:52
leaf is it a stem or root what do you think that's right you're right well done it's a stem brilliant 00:00:59
okay so what we eat is the stem we cannot eat the roots here okay brilliant right so this one 00:01:07
why green lettuce here what are these what part of the plant is the flower is the leaf stem root 00:01:16
That's right. This is an easy one. You guessed. These are the leaves of the plant. So what 00:01:26
we eat in the lettuce are the leaves. Brilliant. Well done. Now be careful with the next one. 00:01:33
It's a bit more difficult. Let's have a guess. Right, we've got a carrot. Now what part of 00:01:38
the plant is a carrot? It's the flower, leaf, stem or root. What would you say? Be careful. 00:01:45
Now I'll give you a clue. Carrots are under the soil. We cannot see them. So what is it then? 00:01:55
That's right. It's a root. Carrots are roots. Did you know that? They're under the soil. 00:02:05
And we can see the leaves outside but we cannot see the carrots because it's under the soil. 00:02:11
Brilliant! So carrot is a root. Brilliant! And let's go on to this one. Potato. 00:02:18
The flower leaves them for a root. What would you say? Do you know? It's also a root. 00:02:28
Like the carrots, both of them are roots. They're under the soil. Okay, so we call 00:02:38
them a root. Brilliant. And be careful with this. Right, so we've got broccoli here. And 00:02:45
what part would you say this is? Hmm. Be careful with this. It's a tricky one. Do you know? 00:02:54
Is it a flower, leaf, stem, root? Right. So broccoli, it's a flower. That's right. It's 00:03:03
not a leaf, it's not a stem or root. It is a flower. Okay? Be careful with that. It's 00:03:14
a tricky one, isn't it? And finally, I've got an apple. I've got a red apple here. What 00:03:20
is it? Is it a flower, a leaf, a stem or a root? Do you know? Well, it's none of them. 00:03:27
An apple is a fruit. You know that some plants have got fruits. And it's the case of an apple. 00:03:36
This is a fruit, and we eat it. 00:03:43
Mmm, yummy. Brilliant. 00:03:45
So, what we're going to do, we're going to see more examples of fruit, 00:03:48
and we're going to see which part of the plant it is. 00:03:51
You ready? Let's go. 00:03:54
Okay, so let's see what plants we eat. 00:03:57
Here we've got a market stall with lots of fruit and vegetables, 00:04:01
and they all come from plants. 00:04:06
So let's see which part of the plant they are. 00:04:08
Let's have a look. 00:04:11
right so we can eat parts of some plants like for example this one let's review them these are the 00:04:12
roots remember the roots absorb the water okay so that the plants can leave then we've got the stem 00:04:21
okay this plant has got lots of different stems and what they do is they hold the plant and they 00:04:30
take the water up to the leaves, flowers and fruit. Brilliant. These are the fruits. We've 00:04:38
got some strawberries here. Okay, then we've got also two flowers and then we've got some 00:04:46
leaves. Brilliant. Right, so the first one that we're going to say are the roots. So 00:04:55
let's have a look and see which vegetables are roots. Okay, so we've got three here. 00:05:03
We've got the potato and the carrot, which we've seen before. And this one here is called 00:05:13
a radish. Okay, so all of them are roots. And we've got the stem. Okay, stem. And let's 00:05:19
say which food is a stem. Well, we've got three here. We can clearly say that there 00:05:33
are stems. Can you see how many? There are loads of them. So we've got asparagus. We've 00:05:42
got a leek and celery. Loads of them. Okay. Remember, these are stems. Then we've got 00:05:49
the leaves, which are these parts here. And let's see. We've got this one here. We've 00:06:01
got some cabbage. We've got spinach and lettuce. Okay. All these three are leaves. And also 00:06:09
we also eat some flowers. Like for example here. Okay. We've got the artichoke. We've 00:06:22
for the broccoli and the cauliflower. And all of them are flowers. Brilliant. And then 00:06:32
we've got the fruit. Okay. Like this one's here. Look, we've got some tomatoes. We've 00:06:42
got some strawberries and bananas. Okay. Look, they're all down from the tree. And they are 00:06:49
of fruit. Okay. Brilliant. Well, that's it for today. Thank you very much. Bye bye. 00:06:57
