How can language assistants encourage students to speak English?
How can we make language assistants happier?

and I have to say my favorite part about being an auxiliar was without a doubt my students I 00:00:25
still think about them frequently you know every couple of weeks for sure I'm thinking about them 00:00:35
and the second best part was the relationships that I was able to form with the other teachers 00:00:41
there who I still talk to you know once a week and who I count among my close 00:00:48
friends but one of the things I think they can improve on is that I think 00:00:54
sometimes there's this disconnect between the auxiliares and the other 00:01:12
teachers in the school and not necessarily the English teachers but 00:01:19
just all of the teachers in the school hi my name is keely eisley and i'm a language assistant at 00:01:23
ceip torres quevedo primary school in costalada for the community of madrid from my experience 00:01:48
in the last year i feel that a way to make the language assistant program more effective is to 00:01:54
utilize the native knowledge of the assistants in more aspects of lesson planning so that native 00:02:00
language is involved in every part of any given lesson. In my opinion, the most effective aspect 00:02:05
of the language assistant program in Madrid is the one-on-one conversations held between 00:02:12
assistants and students. While assistants are very useful in the larger classroom setting 00:02:19
to teach grammar, culture, and assist the teachers and students with pronunciation, 00:02:26
the most effective use of the assistants is working in smaller group or one-on-one settings 00:02:32
with students. This is the setting where I saw the most growth and progress with my students. 00:02:37
They gained skills working closely with me that they then can use in the classroom. The 00:02:44
most rewarding part of my work as a language assistant was helping students prepare and 00:02:50
practice for the Trinity College Oral Exam in these smaller groups. The native language assistant has 00:02:55
much further reach to their students the more they can engage the student in conversation, 00:03:02
which usually isn't possible in the larger classes. However, in the classrooms the language 00:03:07
assistant can still make themselves useful and should constantly be engaging students by asking 00:03:13
questions, correcting pronunciation, and spelling errors. 00:03:19
As it turns out, all the great and inspiring leaders and organizations in the world, whether 00:03:56
it's Apple or Martin Luther King or the Wright Brothers, they all think, act, and communicate 00:04:01
the exact same way, and it's the complete opposite to everyone else. 00:04:05
All I did was codify it, and it's probably the world's simplest idea. 00:04:11
I call it the golden circle. 00:04:17
why how what this little idea explains why some organizations and some leaders are able to inspire 00:04:19
where others aren't let me define the terms really quickly every single person every single 00:04:35
organization on the planet knows what they do 100 some know how they do it whether you call it your 00:04:40
differentiating value proposition or your proprietary process or your usp but very very 00:04:48
few people or organizations know why they do what they do. And by why, I don't mean 00:04:53
to make a profit. That's a result. It's always a result. By why, I mean what's your purpose? 00:04:58
What's your cause? What's your belief? Why does your organization exist? Why do you get 00:05:03
out of bed in the morning? And why should anyone care? 00:05:10
