Today, we're going to talk about how to pronounce ED for verbs in the past. 00:00:00
There are three different ways to pronounce the ED ending for the past tense verbs. 00:00:09
Walked, smelled, and visited. 00:00:16
Walked, the ED sounds like T. 00:00:21
Smelled, it's D. 00:00:25
And visited is ID. 00:00:27
Now, to practice, place your fingertips on the front of your neck and pronounce these 00:00:30
words very, funny, zebra, snake. 00:00:39
When your vocal cords vibrate for the words very and zebra, these are called voiced sounds. 00:00:48
voiced consonant sounds are b, d, j, j, l, m, n, n, r, s, v. Past tense verbs with voiced 00:01:00
ending sounds, the ed is going to sound like d. So, moved, returned, stayed, studied, 00:01:19
Married, raised, changed, traveled, dreamed, listened, lived. 00:01:32
Now we're going to talk about voiceless consonant sounds when your vocal cords do not vibrate. 00:01:43
Here are some past tense verbs where the E-D is going to sound like a T. 00:01:58
POPPED, DROPPED, WORKED, WALKED, WATCHED, FINISHED, STOPPED, LAUGHED, COUGHED. 00:02:09
Past tense verbs that end in T or D are going to sound like ID or D. 00:02:24
