Descargar la transcripción

Hello, it's Elizabeth here, and today I will be telling you about Social Sciences Unit 5, Lesson 1. 00:00:00
So this is a little bit of an introduction of the unit, and the unit is called Spain in the Middle Ages. 00:00:09
So first, I will be reading the Time Fact. 00:00:17
So it's a little yellow box. It just starts off by giving you a little bit of information. 00:00:21
All right, Time Fact. 00:00:26
In the Middle Ages, life expectancy was about 35 years. 00:00:30
People in the Middle Ages didn't know how to cure diseases that we can cure today. 00:00:36
Many people also died of diseases like the Black Death. 00:00:42
Okay, and then now I will be reading the blue box to the right of it. 00:00:47
And it says, 00:00:52
The Middle Ages began in 476 A.D. when the Roman Empire ended. 00:00:54
At the beginning, there were many wars in Western Europe. 00:01:03
This made it difficult for the merchants to travel, so trade decreased. 00:01:07
Cities became smaller and many people moved to the countryside. 00:01:12
Christianity became important in all aspects of life. 00:01:18
Society was divided into three groups, the clergy, nobles, and peasants. 00:01:21
During the Middle Ages, Spain didn't exist. 00:01:29
There were Christian kingdoms in the north. 00:01:33
In the south, there was a Muslim state called the Al-Andalus. 00:01:36
We can find historical artifacts in both areas. 00:01:41
Some artifacts are in museums. 00:01:46
others are outside for example roads buildings and bridges they're important 00:01:48
because they're part of our heritage we need to preserve them for future 00:01:55
generations so also on this page there's a little timeline that you want to make 00:02:00
sure to look at it goes through Roman Hispania the Visigothic Kingdom and then 00:02:06
the Christian kingdoms and the Al-Andalus kingdoms. So make sure to look at that timeline 00:02:14
too. All right. Thank you for listening. See you next time. 00:02:19
