Good morning. In this third evaluation we're going to look at argumentative writing tasks.
00:00:00
We're going to focus specifically on persuasive tasks.
00:00:08
Remember that this task, the writing task, is 20% of your final mark.
00:00:12
So what exactly will we be asking you to produce?
00:00:18
Well, you have to show us that you're able to produce an original text with your own ideas
00:00:22
and ideas that you've researched and put in your own words,
00:00:28
that these texts are clearly organised and coherent, that they make sense as I read your ideas,
00:00:32
that you have planned previously, that you have shown the ability to redraft your work, to improve it.
00:00:39
As I said, your ideas have to be coherent.
00:00:47
And it's really important that you remember that this is a persuasive piece of writing
00:00:50
and that is your purpose, to persuade the reader to share your opinion.
00:00:55
So, your basic knowledge that you have to put into action here.
00:00:59
Well, you have to write a text, a persuasive text.
00:01:04
It has to be well organised, clear paragraphs.
00:01:07
You have to show that you've researched and referenced.
00:01:10
In other words, you can copy ideas but you have to put them in your own words.
00:01:14
I will show you how to look for information on the internet in another video.
00:01:20
Before you actually write down anything, obviously, you have to plan your ideas out,
00:01:25
the language, the linkers that you're going to use.
00:01:31
You have to show the reader, in this case me, that your ideas are relevant and that they make sense.
00:01:34
And obviously, you have to take care with your grammar and your spelling.
00:01:42
Always remember the purpose, which is to persuade the reader to share your opinion.
00:01:46
So, you obviously have to make it clear the opinion that you're going to argue, to defend.
00:01:52
You will need, for this writing task, access to the internet.
00:01:59
I know that most of you use your mobile phones.
00:02:04
And then, towards the end of the task, you have to write your text on Canva or a Word document.
00:02:07
So, in the next few lessons, we will be reviewing the vocab and the grammar that you will need for this writing.
00:02:16
We're going to look at the difference between fact and opinion
00:02:23
and the importance of topic sentences and supporting data.
00:02:27
And I'm going to be asking you to use three types of supporting data.
00:02:32
I'll show you a model of a persuasive text.
00:02:38
And then you will be working with a partner to do a pair writing,
00:02:42
in which you will plan, research, draft and redraft your work.
00:02:48
And, hopefully, there will be enough time for a peer and self-evaluation of your work before you hand it in.
00:02:55
The rubric, well, I've got the rubric a little bit further down,
00:03:02
but I'm going to be asking you, basically, to show me that you can write a persuasive text,
00:03:06
that you can organise and structure your ideas clearly,
00:03:12
that you can use grammar correctly and the appropriate words for the text,
00:03:16
the topic that you will be writing about,
00:03:21
that your spelling and your punctuation are correct,
00:03:25
and that you have referenced, used a bibliography, basically,
00:03:29
to show where your sources have come from.
00:03:35
And that's it. Thank you very much.
