Hello, we are Mark and Álvaro and we are going to talk about the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. 00:00:01
It was signed 9th July 1776. 00:00:09
Back then, the country of Great Britain had 15 colonies in America. 00:00:13
The 13 colonies were upset at Great Britain because they felt unfairly treated. 00:00:18
So the 13 colonies went to war with Great Britain in a war called the Revolutionary War. 00:00:23
A year to the war, they officially declared their freedom from Great Britain, so they 00:00:30
got help from Thomas Jefferson. 00:00:36
He was the main author of the Declaration of Independence and it was his job to put 00:00:39
towards exactly why they were declaring independence. 00:00:44
And that's what the Declaration of Independence does, explains why the 13 colonies were forming 00:00:48
a new country, the United States of America. 00:00:55
So for 17 days Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence with the help 00:01:00
of a small committee, which included Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. 00:01:05
They edited the document and made changes before it was given to the Second Continental 00:01:09
Congress in Independence Hall and catched this on June 28, 1776. 00:01:15
Thomas Jefferson and the committee shared the document with the Second Continental Congress 00:01:21
in Independence Hall. 00:01:26
An interesting fact, when they started it with the Second Continental Congress, it was 00:01:31
an actually called Declaration of Independence. 00:01:35
They originally called it a declaration by the representatives of the United States of 00:01:39
America in General Congress Assignment, title that sounds like a title I'm glad it was 00:01:44
shortened. 00:01:51
Once they had the document, Congress made a change. 00:01:52
They searched the document itself and the document became known as SIMF, the Declaration 00:01:57
of Independence. 00:02:04
Then the big day came on July 4th. 00:02:05
Congress voted for the Declaration of Independence, the date was written on the Declaration of 00:02:09
Independence and even though it was not signed by everyone right away, it became official 00:02:14
that day. 00:02:20
The first person to sign was a guy by the name of John Hancock in Masons. 00:02:22
He was the president of the Second Continental Congress and he was famous for his signature 00:02:28
on the Clarison of Independence because he wrote his signature with such big letters 00:02:33
you can say his signature. 00:02:38
Thanks for listening and I hope to see you again. 00:02:40
