Hi guys and good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whatever you are doing right now. Because of the situation that we have nowadays, I don't have any other things that are trying to help you with this online classroom to try to support your knowledge about the unit that we are going to learn and to improve your vocabulary. 00:00:02
so for now I'm gonna try to make this presentation chapter by chapter for 00:00:28
every single unit that we are have to study up until the moment that we will 00:00:35
come back to the classroom and we can see each other once again so we are 00:00:40
going to start with the unit number three but before that let me explain you 00:00:47
for now I have uploaded a forum in the website where you can ask anything that 00:00:52
you want you can you can ask for your doubt you can participate doing your own 00:01:01
questions on or we can just chat about anything related to the topic that we 00:01:07
are studying about and that you are interested in so don't hesitate to 00:01:13
contact with me for anything so now let me start with the unit number three that if you remember 00:01:20
when we started in number two and number one it's the one relating with the primary sector 00:01:27
the ones related with agriculture livestock farming cell agriculture and fishing so we are 00:01:34
going to see all that point of view but today we are going to start with the agriculture with the 00:01:43
arable farming what is agriculture or what is arable farming it's complete the economic 00:01:49
activities and techniques relating to the treatment of soil and cultivation of land 00:01:57
for food and production so obtain any kind of food it's something that you have to 00:02:05
keep in mind for your vocabulary in the case of an exam remember 00:02:13
Another two important words that we are going to learn in this unit are the 00:02:19
sustainable food productions because we are in a developed country and we 00:02:31
already study in the classroom but there are a lot of different countries emerging 00:02:36
countries and non-developed countries that despite that they have a lot of 00:02:41
productions they cannot achieve to this amount of food that we are obtaining 00:02:45
every single day and there are big amount of people that is dying of hunger 00:02:52
nowadays so we have to keep in mind that is despite of the big amount of food 00:02:56
that we are able to obtain in a supermarket or whatever we want to this 00:03:05
is not a reality for every single human being on the other hand we have to 00:03:10
mention what is the FAO what is the F A O is the organization for food that is 00:03:17
depending on the on the United Nations that we already mentioned the 00:03:24
headquarters in Rome and it's not important for your knowledge but keep in 00:03:29
mind that there are several organizations that are in charge of taking care of the situation 00:03:37
related to food and agriculture and livestock farming all around the world. So, what we are 00:03:44
going to learn about in this chapter? First, we are going to mention how farming has changed 00:03:51
from the beginning of the time, if you remember in Primera del Azo, you studied the Neolithic, 00:03:57
that is the period of the time where everything changed related to agriculture. 00:04:03
Then we will study the different agricultural landscapes, 00:04:09
especially focused on Spain. 00:04:14
The difference between subsistence is farming and commercial farming 00:04:17
that are totally related to developed and non-developed countries. 00:04:22
The different types of fishing and what are the resources that the forests provide. 00:04:26
And the keywords of the unit are going to be among all the words that we are going to mention, for example, aquaculture, foods of variety, monoculture, deforestation and so on. 00:04:32
So first, what is agriculture, arable farming? It is everything that is related to the treatment of soil and cultivation of land for food production, to obtain food, vegetables, fruit, and so on. 00:04:46
Then, related with the two important words that we mentioned previously, the food and 00:05:05
agricultural organization and the food sovereignty, everything that I have already said, that 00:05:12
despite the fact that there is a blues of food in the developed countries, there is 00:05:18
still a lot of conflict all around the world. 00:05:23
And finally, for this unit, just to mention the different factors that are going to affect 00:05:28
agriculture we have to keep in mind that agriculture is going to be able in a lot of 00:05:35
different places but not in the same quantity or in the same quality and this is because of 00:05:41
physical factors and human factors that you have to know let's go in the physical factors 00:05:48
are the ones related with the with the reliefs with the climate with the soil and so on for 00:05:57
example the rainfall there is a minimum of amount that the crops need to to get a good harvest but 00:06:06
also, depending on the type of rainfall, we could have a big amount of crops or a 00:06:17
better quality of crops. It's not the same if it's raining or it's hailing or it's 00:06:26
snowing. Another factor is the temperature. For example, the big majority 00:06:32
of the agriculture it's related with the template part of the of the globe so you 00:06:38
notice the developed countries of course we could find a lot of different crops 00:06:48
in the equator and in Africa and in Indonesia and so on but we cannot find 00:06:53
this kind of crops for example in Norway in Iceland or in the north of Canada 00:07:01
then the growing season that is the length of time that crops needs to grow 00:07:07
so the pain of the frost depend of the rain benefit virtues and we could have 00:07:13
problems with the homes then related to the relief we could mention the attitude 00:07:19
because the higher you are the colder so you cannot get the same kind of same 00:07:27
of product or even you cannot get products then the the slope faces is not the same that you are 00:07:34
in the north of an arm of on a mountain the north phase and in the south phase because the south 00:07:41
phase receive more heat so the crops are able to to grow in a better way then probably we have these 00:07:48
loves of their relief there are a lot of countries with a lot of slope and it's very difficult 00:08:00
to cultivate in these places so because of that they are going to accurate the soils to cultivate 00:08:08
on their own and finally for example we can mention the soil the fertile that a soil is 00:08:16
if it's well drained or not and so on for example a volcanic soil is more fertile than 00:08:24
than any others so because of that there are a lot of populations that are living close to a volcano 00:08:33
so keep in mind that idea another factors that are that i didn't mention for example the fauna 00:08:40
any animal or any bug that is living close to a crop can affect the farming or even the vegetation 00:08:46
because it means that it's more fertile or not on the other hand we have the human factors for 00:08:57
example the labor because you need the human being to uh to acquire your your aims now in this case 00:09:04
to cultivate your crop the market depending on the demand remember that we mentioned the capitalist 00:09:13
system that it is based on the uh on the on the demand that it's uh that is created by the 00:09:21
companies then the access accessibility for example the transport from one place to another 00:09:32
sorry the far that you are from a place is going to increase the cost of transport then any kind 00:09:38
of subsidized the policies that the government's take into account to encourage certain types of 00:09:49
fun that in the European Union is quite important because of the agrarian political that we have in 00:09:56
common then the attitudes of the different people the farmers and the and the public that is going 00:10:04
to influence what it's grown and the finance because they are going to influence what is 00:10:13
wrong according with the capital that they need apart from these physical and these and human 00:10:19
factors that we already mentioned nowadays exist new factors that are changing agriculture 00:10:30
for example the first one is the new consumer trains with healthy lifestyles for example 00:10:37
ecological produce with not a where um there with not any kind of artificial product and so on 00:10:44
another factor another matter factor is the commercial agriculture method instead of the 00:10:54
traditional forms to increase the productivity because we are in a capitalist capitalist world 00:11:01
full of globalization so nowadays the traditional forms are just in in small countries or in small 00:11:08
regions or in small villages then the last two factors that we have to mention are the scientific 00:11:19
advances like genetic modification that nowadays create new fruit for example like nectarina i 00:11:28
don't know the english name for that fruit i am so sorry and finally the new uses of pesticides 00:11:36
the chemical pesticides that they are trying to reduce the use of this kind of techniques 00:11:44
because they are contaminating the soil and the water and the soil so it's a it's a very 00:11:52
important problem nowadays that they are trying to solve finally to finish today just to mention 00:12:01
What are the aims, the objectives of the 2050, for the 2050 years related to food and farming? 00:12:08
And it's basically, if it's expected to have approximately 9 billion people on the planet, 00:12:18
we have to increase production. 00:12:26
but also we need to try to try to get to all the population with major innovation 00:12:29
to try to solve the critical water and heat problems and to try to minimize the 00:12:38
impacts of food and farming in the world so guys today we have mentioned what is 00:12:49
the edible farming what is agriculture so one important word for your vocabulary 00:13:00
we also mentioned what is the FAO and what is fruits of variety and we 00:13:06
mentioned the different characteristics on edible farming the different factors 00:13:13
that affect the edible farming physical human and the modern factors are 00:13:17
changing agriculture so this is the chapter number one and with this I'm 00:13:24
gonna finish today I'm gonna and in the next chapter I will explain the 00:13:29
different agriculture landscape please if you have any doubt don't know 00:13:37
hesitate to contact with me or to write me in the forums remember participation is part of 00:13:42
your final mark so i hope that you can ask me whatever you want okay guys see you soon 00:13:49
