In the Second Republic, any constitution was approved, which included the right to vote for women and the separation of church and state. During this period, the first statutes of autonomy for Catalonia and the País Vasco were also approved. 00:00:19
The Government of the Republic implemented many reforms. A new education law was written, a land reform to distribute the land with more equality, and finally a labour reform. However, these reforms weren't accepted by everyone and violent conflicts happened over time. 00:00:34
In Parliament, there were two major blocs, the Progressive Bloc and the Conservative Bloc. Each bloc governed two years. Among them, there was a lot of tension due to the difference in ideology. General Franco led a coup that ended the Second Spanish Republic. 00:00:51
