Parks, clean air, bike facilities, good public transport. These make cities attractive for young people to live in, work or raise a family.

I'm very concerned about the fact that there is a waste separation system. 00:00:00
For me a green city should be with parks and with pure air. 00:00:12
We want to make them pleasant to live, we want to make them sustainable in the future 00:00:17
and sustainable growth in the future so that they can continue to grow. 00:00:21
Yeah, there are some cities in which you have the centre that is quite nice and then the 00:00:24
suburb which is awful and I think it contributes to people's behaviour to one another, especially 00:00:28
in big cities. 00:00:33
I would say where cars are completely prohibited in the centre of the city. 00:00:34
Also it would definitely have to have facilities for people to be able to use bikes. 00:00:40
A city where the air is very of good quality, there's no traffic congestion. 00:00:44
Well when I have to describe a green city I'm thinking for most about public transport 00:00:51
facilities. 00:00:55
A percentage of our electricity is off renewable power, we have very well integrated transport, 00:00:56
we just started building new tramways so we started digging up the streets to build a 00:01:04
tramway to increase public transport. 00:01:08
I think in Paris public transport, tube buses, are kind of well developed compared to other 00:01:10
cities. 00:01:17
The one thing I would definitely change about Brussels is the traffic congestion. 00:01:18
I would I think apply a system like you have in London where you have to pay to get into 00:01:24
the city centre. 00:01:29
Decentralised energy supply, basically people being able to supply themselves with the energy 00:01:31
meaning solar energy, wind energy and these kind of things. 00:01:36
Like the centre, the shopping centre, pedestrian zones. 00:01:40
Yeah I would definitely look at the situation with the carbon emissions that cars produce. 00:01:43
Another very important issue I feel is a city's use of water and without fail I think it's 00:01:48
once or twice a week the streets are cleaned with power jets that must waste incredible 00:01:54
amounts of water. 00:02:00
The green thing about Amsterdam is I think it is the city of bikes, I don't know any 00:02:01
other city where there are as many bikes as there are. 00:02:06
If you come there at the central station you see this huge bike shed. 00:02:08
One thing I would definitely change in Brussels is to make it mandatory for companies to provide 00:02:12
showers because it makes it more convenient for cyclists who go to their job to be able 00:02:19
to go there freely and to be able to work freshly. 00:02:25
Green spaces I think are very important, in my opinion for me it would make me decide 00:02:33
which city I would choose to live. 00:02:39
If the job is the same I would go for the green, that's for sure. 00:02:41
I would go for the city which offers me more in terms of environment and where I have a 00:02:46
certain balance for my work life. 00:02:52
I think to attract young professionals cities should always care for the environment and 00:02:55
how green it is because when young professionals come to work in the city they don't want just 00:03:02
to get a good job, they want to enjoy their life, right? 00:03:07
People will definitely stay in the city longer because the main reason they want to move 00:03:10
out is because they want a better quality of life for their children. 00:03:13
So if we can provide this quality of life within the cities then they will definitely 00:03:15
stay within the cities. 00:03:19
I think it's very important for them that they grow up in a green city, they grow up 00:03:20
in a city where it's not only grey of bricks but it's also something nice to live in and 00:03:24
healthy future for my children is very important to me. 00:03:30
If the city had a lot of green aspects to it then it would be a motivating factor to 00:03:33
stay there and you wouldn't be worried that your children were breathing in bad substances. 00:03:40
In Belgium where you see that most of the people are trying to live outside the city 00:03:46
centre because it's just too polluted and there's no place for kids or for gardens anymore. 00:03:50
