Insects camouflage, principally to protect themselves from other living things that want to feed on them.
00:00:46
First, we have concealing coloration. It's when the animal hides itself against a background of the same color.
00:01:14
This is used to blend in with the environment.
00:01:20
Then we have destructive coloration. It's when the animal has spots, stripes or patterns to break out the outline so it doesn't stick out against the back front.
00:01:22
This quiz is the next type of camouflage. This is when the animal blends in with the surrounding by looking like another object.
00:01:37
An insect that looks like a branch or a leaf is using a costume to hide from predators.
00:01:45
Lastly, we have mimicry. This is when the insect pretends to be a more dangerous insect, this is just to be scarier and protect itself.
00:01:49
There are a lot of insects that use camouflage. Some examples are insect sticks, leaf insects, green caterpillar and the cuttlefish.
00:02:01
There are also some insects that use their back legs as shovels to deposit on them the
00:02:35
exoskeleton from insects, sand, soil, leaves and pieces of wood.
00:03:05
One curiosity is that in recent studies they found out that camouflaging insects come back
00:03:35
from way before dinosaurs.
