So, when expressing if you agree with something or if you disagree with something in the past, 00:00:00
it's just the same as you do in the present, but you change the auxiliary verb to past simple tense. 00:00:09
So, again, first thing you do is you look and see if the statement that was presented to you 00:00:20
that you either agree with or you do not agree with, if that statement was positive 00:00:27
or if it was negative. If the statement is positive, we're using the verb to do. 00:00:33
Then instead of I do with the positive present, it's past. So it's positive past. I did. Instead 00:00:47
of do, it's did. I did. If you didn't, but the statement says you did, then you go to the 00:00:57
negative of this positive statement. This positive statement being I did, the negative being I didn't 00:01:10
or I did not. This is just short for this. So if you agree with this positive statement 00:01:18
that you did. I did all my homework already. I did help my mom cook dinner yesterday. 00:01:37
If you want to agree with this statement, this positive statement that you did something, 00:01:53
you would say so did I or I did too. If you want to agree with the negative that you didn't or you 00:01:59
did not. If you want to agree with this negative statement you need another negative. So you would 00:02:15
say, neither did I. This goes from being two who did to one who didn't and you, so two who didn't. 00:02:26
So two to zero. If you want to disagree with a positive statement, you need a negative. 00:02:38
So if you want to disagree with I did, you simply go to I didn't or I did not. 00:02:52
If the statement is that I didn't or I did not, but you in fact did, 00:03:03
then you just need to go from the negative to the positive statement and simply from I didn't to I did. 00:03:11
And when we are using the verb to be, it's again the exact same as the present, except for the auxiliary verb is in past simple tense. 00:03:20
It says instead of present simple, it's past simple. 00:03:38
So, I was. 00:03:44
Past simple of to be. 00:03:47
I was. 00:03:49
Positive. 00:03:51
I was. 00:03:51
Yes, I was. Negative to be. I wasn't. I was not. I was, but I wasn't. I wasn't, but I was. 00:03:52
It's the opposite. This is the positive statement and this is the negative statement. 00:04:07
so if you want to agree with this positive statement I was okay so I was at the party 00:04:12
were you if you also were at the party you would say so was I or you can say I was too 00:04:23
if you want to agree with the negative statement that I wasn't at the party. 00:04:33
I was not at the party. 00:04:44
Remember, it's a negative statement and you're agreeing with it. 00:04:49
So you need to use another negative. 00:04:54
So you say, neither was I. 00:04:57
Neither or neither. 00:05:00
Either way is correct for pronunciation. 00:05:02
Neither or neither. 00:05:06
so neither was i this person wasn't at the party i wasn't at the party and you weren't at the party 00:05:07
so neither was i this goes from two to one because this one wasn't to zero because this one wasn't 00:05:17
either and again if you want to disagree with this positive statement that i was i was at the party 00:05:26
but if you weren't at the party I was but you want to disagree with my positive statement 00:05:38
you need to go over to the negative so then you would simply say I wasn't or I was not I was but 00:05:48
I wasn't or I was not and the same goes for the other direction if this statement is presented 00:05:56
to you i wasn't or i was not this is a negative statement because it has not in there so if you 00:06:07
want to disagree i wasn't at the party but you were so the statement says that this person wasn't 00:06:19
So you're, but you were, so you're disagreeing with the statement. 00:06:30
So then you would simply go over to the positive of the negative and use that. 00:06:36
I was, I wasn't, but I was. 00:06:43
