Cacerolas de las Molucas en Slaughter Beach en la Bahía Delaware (Estados Unidos).
The molucca cacerola, Dimulus polyphemus, is a real living fossil that has not had
00:00:09
close relatives for millions of years. It reaches 50 centimeters in length,
00:00:15
being the male significantly smaller than the female. The body is divided into two regions,
00:00:24
the anterior great cephalotorax and a posterior short abdomen that extends into a long
00:00:34
tail, the telson. The females come out of the water to lay the eggs. With their short legs they
00:00:39
move hard along the beach until they cross the line to the seabed, where they will make a hole
00:01:03
to deposit them. It will leave several packages that can contain up to 20,000 eggs. The larvae,
00:01:08
which are similar to adults, except for the proportional length of the telson, will swim
00:01:32
freely during the first six days of life and during this period they will not be fed.
