Good morning to everyone. I'm Salma, and today I will be concluding today's debate by summarizing everything that's been said, both by my team and by the other team. 00:00:01
But before I do that, I would like to thank all of you for listening to us, and I would also like to thank both my team for defending our position, and also the opposite team for refuting our arguments. 00:00:15
First of all, my teammate Ainoa started by explaining the topic and introducing our three solid main arguments. 00:00:25
For this, she used a photo and showed the effects that private car use can have in cities. 00:00:32
Our three main arguments were the harmful effects private car use has, the accessibility that they provide us and finally the safety. 00:00:38
In the first rebuttal, the opposing team introduced the debate by showing a picture of a Tokyo subway and explaining how crowded it was. 00:00:48
Then they proceeded to introduce their three main arguments that consisted in the travelling distance, the thieves that could appear in public transport, 00:01:05
the littering and noise that pedestrian areas could provoke, and finally the pandemic and the effects that it had in public transport and on people. 00:01:13
In the first rebuttal, he explained how people could be affected by the pedestrianization and how their main roads would be affected, 00:01:24
but my partner later refuted this by explaining how the public transport usually covers most of the city's area, 00:01:34
Putting as an example the metro of Madrid which covers 294 km, data found in its webpage. 00:01:42
After this, the other team explained how tourists could litter pedestrian areas and therefore they could produce more pollution. 00:01:53
But later my teammates refuted this by explaining that this could also happen anywhere else. 00:02:00
and later they explained how only a third part of Spain's population uses public transport, 00:02:07
although we believed that investing in public transport would raise the number of people who use it. 00:02:14
They finally stated people should be able to decide whether they would want to use the car or the public transport, 00:02:19
and my partner later said that we couldn't agree more, 00:02:25
but nobody would be forced to use it, we are only defending that it would be an efficient alternative. 00:02:29
After this, my partner further explained our arguments by showing evidence such as a graph 00:02:35
that showed how in countries where public transport is used more than private car use, 00:02:41
there are less accidents, which can prove that public transport means less accidents 00:02:46
and therefore more safety to us citizens. 00:02:51
And with this being said, I would like to thank all of you again, and with this we conclude the debate. 00:02:54
