As Commissioner responsible for the European finances, one of my main tasks this year is 00:00:13
to work on a proposal to reform the budget. 00:00:19
It is the first time in European history that Member States agreed to launch grand and radical 00:00:23
budget reform. 00:00:28

We engaged in consultation process. 00:00:31
The aim of it is to find the views, how Europe is supposed to look like and how to reform 00:00:33
European budget in future to fit the new challenges of 21st century. 00:00:39

Well, the way Europe spends money was designed almost 50 years ago. 00:00:47
Since then, we have grown from Union 6 to 27. 00:00:52
Our economies are more open and global. 00:00:55
Every day, newspapers are full of stories about challenges, like climate change, energy 00:00:58
issues, jobs moving to the places like China and India. 00:01:03
Europe's budget needs to reflect this new reality. 00:01:07
