POTENTIOMETERS, LDR AND THERMISTORS
Variable resistors.
00:00:00
Some circuits require a variable resistance rather than a fixed one.
00:00:02
This could be to adjust the current in the circuit or to detect changes in light or temperature.
00:00:07
In these cases, we use
00:00:13
Variable resistors or potentiometers.
00:00:22
The maximum value of the component will be indicated on it.
00:00:26
For example, 1 Kiloohms, 10 Kiloohms, 100 Kiloohms, etc.
00:00:29
The higher is the resistance, the lower is the intensity.
00:00:35
Light-controlled variable resistors or LDR, light-dependent resistors.
00:00:50
When we increase the intensity of the light that shines on it, the resistance value decreases, i.e. the more light there is, the less resistance we have.
00:00:55
This way, it can detect changes in light and stop the flow of the current in darkness.
00:01:05
Temperature-controlled variable resistors or thermistors, thermally sensitive resistors.
00:01:18
These can be NTC, negative temperature coefficient, or PTC, positive temperature coefficient, depending on whether their resistance decreases or increases as the temperature rises.
